Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day today. This was the Prime Minister's sixth consecutive Independence Day address to the nation and the first after his landslide victory in the General Elections in May. PM Modi spoke about abrogation of certain sections of Article 370 and Article 35A, criminalising Triple Talaq, welfare schemes for the farmers and the upcoming mission of the government. He also said the government would spend Rs 100 lakh crore on developing modern infrastructure that will help in nearly doubling the size of the Indian economy to $5 trillion in the next five years. The PM also urged people to travel to at least 15 tourist destinations within India by 2022. Adding there is a "huge" scope to improve India's tourism sector.
