My Korean grandma (mama) would make us seaweed soup after we gave birth! It worked too well. I was like a fountain! When in the shower, milk would literally shoot out. I’d wake up drenched!

Knowing that your mom is also afraid of newborns actually comforts me a lot. I had a lot of complications and trauma in my birth and my child was really really fragile and was in the NICU for 2 months. Ever since I just cant hold newborns I just get too anxious and I know babies can sense when you're nervous, so I just look from a distance and coo. It isn't that I don't love them or think that they're absolutely precious, but It's a trigger for me and I have to be kind to myself. I want to give your mom a hug so bad. 🙏

In Nigeria, we do something called omugwo, which means post natal care. Either ur mom, ur mother inlaw or any adult female comes to care for you for 3-6 months. Trust me, you'll be pampered and the mother is usually fed with yam pepper soup, very spicy and soooo delicious

Here in the Philippines, mother's who has just given birth usually eats Tinola. It is a soup/viad that has chicken, green papaya or chayote and lots of moringga (malunggay in our language). Like the seaweed, the moringga are these little green leaves that are super healthy and can also increase breast milk supply.

In Taiwan we have postpartum hotel with super healthy food, a big room to rest and nurses to take care of the baby 24/7. They also have classes to learn how to take care of the baby. We can ask to come bring the baby whenever we want. Normally people book those hotels for 3-4 weeks.

Love that your mom will keep you fed and that you're going to be eating seaweed soup. My Chinese dad made me seaweed soup, too. He brought it to the hospital every day for the three weeks I was in hospital after my twins were born. He also helped me take care of my twins for four months before returning home to Taiwan, then my Korean mil came and took care of the three of us for another six weeks, making more seaweed soup. Then we all flew to Korean so she could help me longer. I would have gone to the moon for help after twins.
