You are so much better at explaining this than my professor.

Just what I needed, thanks.
I can't believe I've had so many problems with these types of questions, yet you explained it perfectly.
Now it makes sense.

Yes, that's exactly what I am currently learning in my Linear Algebra class in my freshman college year 🙂

Just to confirm, the order of the row operation does not matter, correct? As long as we rref to the identity matrix?

That would change the elementary matrices used, does that mean there are different matrices (and combinations) that could be used to construct a matrix?

Thank you. I missed a 4x4 product problem where they ask for three different row operations that transforms A into the identity matrix one of my tests. My final is in 2 days so I’m glad i understand this concept now! :-)

I understand that in regards to ordinary cross products of matrices, that the order does matter. However, I have entered the inverse matrices into MATLAB and found that whether I multiply them starting from 1 and moving to 4 or vice versa, I get EXACTLY the same result. Could this be an error in MATLAB or is it possible that the cross multiplication of elementary matrices is in fact commutative? Please excuse the ignorance of this question. Thank you for taking the time to read it, too. :)

Very nice explanation,
I have a doubt you said in the definition that A has order n×n BUT it can also be n×p also

super helpful thank you. I forgot how to do the last step with the inverse and this answered it.
