Ukrainian’s Hutsul ethnic minority is keeping a century-old weaving tradition alive by using the same tools and techniques that their people have for generations. In war and in peace, they’re determined to keep their craft alive, and they sell their blankets on Etsy. We visited their village in Western Ukraine to see how their tradition is still standing.

This is a fantastic video on these people and their traditions. After watching this video I went onto their etsy page and ordered a blanket on Nov 28th, 2022 and it just arrived about an hour ago. It is so absolutely beautiful and the craftsmanship is amazing. I hope to teach our children the history and all the hard work and love that has gone into our new blanket in hopes of it being a family heirloom for us.

The most beautifu blankets in the world I treasure mine which was made by Svitlana from Carpathian Handicrafts. It is such a beautiful tradition I wish more knew of them they are incredible heirlooms to be passed on and smell and feel so good.

I am a beginner weaver, but this is so inspirational. When this tragedy is over, and the Russians retreat, I would like to visit. We have no use for such heavy blankets where I live in Australia, but I would love one of theirs for the artistry and tradition.

Wonder how often they spin or to what size they spin it. I have read some Navajo blankets are 90 threads per inch. Also a Navajo blanket or rug can take months. The looms are different and putting the warp threads on is different. I love each culture is keeping the old ways alive.

Very interesting pronunciation, he the doesn't palatalize the -ать ending (instead reading it as -ат). Is this common in the Hutsul dialect?
