A French born king created the mess and French speaking kings added to it, the English people really had no say in it.
I'm not sure the Irish would have seen the French speaking lords of the English as Englishman.
The Normans/Plantagenet kings had more affiliation for the French lands than they had for their English lands but the French people are never blamed for the mess.
