Imagine the whining that took place when they aired Schindler's List.

After that they complained about all of the violence.

I had a coworker that worked at BlockBuster when it was around, a WWII Vet rented Saving Private Ryan. My coworker warned him that it was known to trigger PTSD and the vet said "Thanks for the warning but I want to see how accurate they got it."

After a week the vet returned and my coworker asked him about it. The vet said "The only thing missing was the smell of the blood on the beach."

This was actually done physically on the film in a process called bleach bypass, where the silver in the film stays on the emulsion with the color dyes after development. It’s a very specific and intentional look done on the original cinema film the movie was shot on, film photographers still do it on still and motion pictures.

The beginning and ending in the memorial grave yard had full color and I agree with the color change made the combat scenes feel older.

They made it look like the Early color film that was brand new in the 1940's.

I thought it was fascinating to color change the view because it gave it a grim point of view if cameramen were to film this in real life. Soldier entering into a war zone never hoped that their documentary was good for Hollywood pictures. They just hope that their effort to protect us were acknowledged and appreciated. My veterans didn't complain.

"Wow, this war looks so bleak and gloomy and lifeless. Totally unrealistic, I'm gonna call in and complain."

The color saturation is what people were concerned about with THIS movie 😂

I noticed it immediately when I first saw this in the cinema and absolutely was for it, it adds that realistic grittyness that you'd expect during WWII.
I'm assuming they did the same thing for the band of brothers prestige tv series also.

I like how in a movie showing people brutally killed, the color was the biggest problem lol

"Hey, let's make a true to life realistic war film!"
"No the colour doesn't look 'real' enough..let's tone it down."

That makes sense to me in a way at least for combat scenes. Reflecting on action in Iraq, for some reason you can’t always remember color. I remember insurgents shooting at me from very close range with machine gun fire and Ak’s, but all I could remember was that the vehicle was dark. Everything else was in slow motion.

Whenever someone adds color to the black and white pictures and footage from ww2, it makes it sureal and really makes the events feel like they happened recently and you can connect with the people in it.
