Sumela Monastery, Trabzon - Most Impressive Location at the Black Sea?

(TURKEY VLOG 3) It's our second day of our road trip at the Black Sea and we head into the mountains to visit two monasteries with ancient origins. The first one is the Sumela Monastery near Trabzon, or Panagia Soumela, which is one of the most known locations by the Turkish part of the Black Sea. Our current state in the world makes it challenging to visit since it also is a popular destination.

Thank you for this very picturesque. I have seen docos on why these frecos were destroyed. As you know and eluded to last video, the Greeks with their Christian religion were ousted early last centurly quite violently. The vandalism especially removing the faces was quite deliberate and for alternative religious reasons. Very sad.
