There's a difference between being a "Karen" and advocating for a child. Especially when a child can't advocate for themselves.

NTA imo. The school should know the kind of liability not following an IEP will get you, listen to the kid explain the situation, and just given the kid a language warning. It sounds like the sub tried to intimidate a child with a physical disability, they should count themselves lucky to not be on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

"and which lawyer will you be calling in the upcoming disability discrimination lawsuit you're going to lose?" Would have been my response.

If I were Op, my question to the school would be, “And what steps will you be taking to ensure that sub is punished for physically intimidating my child?”

Generally, if someone calls themselves a Karen in aita, it’s because they actually listen to what others say. These people don’t tend to be Karens.

Not the bad apple 🍎 my son has Cerebral Palsy. It is not easy for these kids to stand up and advocate for themselves. This young girl did and respectfully until the teacher got in her personal space which is very confrontational

No, not the bad apple. Her daughter has a condition just like she said
"this is not your average teenager being rude and deserving a long walk home as a punishment”
This is a kid who has a actual condition, if they can't climb the rock wall than they can't climb the rock wall.

I feel this
My sister has autism and my mom asked for the school the look into something/get her an iep (I’m not sure I was like 5 at the time)
She asked over the phone
The school did not look into it for the entire school year, because my mom had asked over the phone rather than getting it in writing

I have the same condition! It effects my writing and my case manger for my IEP just changes the new one was not great at her job. Part of my condition is my writing looks like that of a little kid. My history teacher told me. "How are we gonna handle this if I'm not able to read your writing? Your gonna be an adult soon so you have to learn to write properly." And then you know. Broke the law by talking about my IEP with me. Infront of the class. Without my permission. My parents and I both Lost our minds on the school. So no. Not a bad apple. At all!

I remember this one! There was a later edit after people were telling her she shouldn't be allowing her child to be punished at all because SHE HAD AN IEP THAT THE TEACHER WAS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR RESPECT. Good on her for being strong enough to go against authority when authority failed to protect her!

This should of been in her IEP or 504 that PE. Needs to be modified because of her physical disability.
Amanda who was clearly thought to speak up a about her condition did so and this should of been respected by all staff and students.
Not the bad apple at all.

That's what a sensible parent would do. Good job.

I work in adaptive sports where I got my participants onto a rock wall through various ways. That gym teacher trying get the student on the wall without accommodating is violating the ADA. Same for the bus driver driving them off and walk home…

Honestly I think I would’ve literally gone nuclear salt the earth when I’m done with this shit because no you’re not gonna do that to my child with a IEP

Originally I was thinking "yeah, 100% bad apple" and then it said cerebral palsy, and I did a complete 180 lmao. But on a more serious note, I'm disabled and I have multiple friends who are disabled, a lot of school teachers either don't understand/don't want to understand why we can't do things everyone else can. So I think that the mother is 100% correct.
