Largest Ram Pump in the World

With an inlet of 500mm and scalable, this really is the largest commercially available ram pump in the world - and it delivers large amounts of water to higher elevations or over long distances - all without the use of electricity, petrol or diesel.

It was quieter than I expected for such a large scale ram pump.

My left ear enjoyed the introduction to the video.

Interesting. The farm my mother grew up on had a ram pump. They used it until the growth of the nearby city caused the water table to fall.

Am from Kenya and your technology is so so great! Welcome to Kenya! Please connect Ram pump to ewaso nyiro river in magadi kenya. The maasai use it as their main water source for themselves and their cattle. The Masai woman trek for miles in hot weather condition to collect water. If you can pump water in elevated storage tank which create water pressure, then connect pipes to Masai villages (manyatta). Not only will it have an impact in environment, but also brighten the future of a maasai woman, that leave her with a smile.

A Manchester UK company was supplying ram pumps to parts of Africa 100 years ago. Most worked well for a generation without the need for maintenance.

Finally a good youtube recomendation. I don't think I'll be interested in getting a ram pump system of any sort in the foreseeable future, but they are sure cool and a great concept for places in development.

Best of lucks with this development, great video too.

This will not work on just any lake, river, or body of water. Location is key. You need sufficient kinetic energy from the water to power a ram pump...the height and/or distance you desire the water to travel is totally dependent on the amount of kinetic energy that is available and captured.

pretty cool . how do you handle the pump overflow ? with a pool to keep the overage in the system flow ? I have to wonder how up scaleable this will be pipe diameter wise ?

Nice one. very sustainable and environmental friendly. will try this back in my village at the heart of tsavo, taita taveta KENYA.

The diameter of pressure tank is so large to withstand high pressure produced by the pump, or it will be swelled up. How is the max pressure you recomend for that pressure tank? Or how high the maximum target did you ever test the pump?

This would be really useful for a water-balanced cliff railway where the water source is at the bottom of the incline. It would definitely save on electricity or fuel bills!

What is the purpose of the pneumatic air lines? Does it require compressed air to run?

Still awesome, excited to see their first commercial install

Yet another option for me to consider for the micro hydro plant I plan to build on my property, once I get some with lots of running water.

hoover dam could use some of these right now to ram pump discharged water and increase the efficiency of power generation

Why is it not possible to put this pump into a closed loop system and continually pump water to the top of a hydro generator for a positive yeilding electrical system?

As a kid my grandfather had a pamphlet about a Seattle pump station that had two 16" drive line ramp pumps working on the same delivery line to pump 500k gallons a day. the drive head was 50ft and the delivery line was 100ft. there was a picture of a guy standing in front of these monsters. I wish i still had the picture. the water source was the Cedar river

Does it have effects to the water discharge when the water source is like a calm river?

I'm encouraged by this video, nice work. I have a river running through my property in the Far East and I hope to install ram pumps for irrigation. If I have sufficient fall, I might install one ram pump below another, By ducting the 'waste' water discharged by the higher pump, into the supply to the lower unit and with clever sluicing, I could get more output from the lower unit than the higher one.

does the flow of the input determine the pressure and capacity? Curious if this would work in a slow moving creek
