I’ve used this method on pvc irrigation pipes for a long time.
A union is a possible solution but I only use a union inside a box because the O ring can fail. 4-90’s is the best method and least digging for irrigation systems. It’s super easy too.

I would use a slip couplings. Four 90's can reduce flow.

For every 90 degree fitting it's like adding ten feet of pipe to the system due to back pressure

You can connect those pipes straight together.There's a special 14 that

Use a repair coupling unless you putting a brace behind your elbows they can fail especially if you got higher water pressure if you live close to a water tower
