How To Remove & Replace A Toilet Wax Seal

We have all seen it - an ice-cream tupperware placed under the toilet to catch water from a leaking toilet seal. This wax seal forms a water-tight seal between the toilet ceramic and the sewage pipe, which over time becomes brittle and starts to leak. I cut the pan connector out and replaced with the wurquin flexible connector. Much better and give a better seal.

My toilet has a black rubber bung at that point. Can I just cut it out and replace it with the wax? Or should I leave it in place and out the wax over? Toilet has been smelling like pee and today I found that that's where it's leaking!

I’ve got that pipe type of waste outlet. Could you tell me could I also get away with this technique without removing the whole toilet / cistern. Mine has a plastic ring seal round the joint also. Assuming that can be removed to access the part. ?
