Thoth, the Ancient Egyptian God of Writing and Wisdom

Показать описание
Thoth is the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, magic, writing and the moon and was one of the most important gods of the Egyptian pantheon. As the son of gods representing order and chaos, he was also considered the god of equilibrium which in turn means he was often associated with Ma’at, the concept of harmony and balance, and the goddess of the same name who personified these principles (and was sometimes depicted as his wife).

Thoth’s Egyptian name was Djehuty which means He Who is Like the Ibis, and the Ibis bird was sacred in ancient Egypt as well as a popular pet and associated with wisdom. Thoth is often depicted with the head of an ibis and the body of a man, or as a seated baboon sometimes with, and sometimes without, the lunar disk over his head, since he was a lunar deity. As the god of wisdom, he is also credited with being the creator of many different branches of knowledge including law, philosophy, religion, science, magic and writing. As the creator of the written language, Thoth was also linked with the concept of fate and, like Seshat, knew the present, as well as the future and they both, wrote down the fate of humans, and of kings.

Why do you think Thoth was so popular in Ancient Egypt?

Brisbane is the Ibis capital of the world. We call them “bin chickens” . I have one that visits daily for dinner, along with the other local birds, his name is Thoth. He’s a sweetheart.

You're pronouncing it wrong! Thoth rhymes with both. It's a long O sound.

Were kings not considered to be human? I'm genuinely asking because I don't know if ancient Egyptians considered differently. Are kings also pharaohs? Because if so, then I kinda understand because I learned that pharaohs weren't considered completely human.

thought/thoth...says in emerald tablets that he floats through the ether of space time...hes our friend and devine architech....i love that his role is not to want to be worshoped but to let us know we have the devine spark within us and can evolve as he has and he leaves us clues but its still our own personal experience ; ) and through experience is how we learn

@worldhistoryencyclopedis Just a note... In case you've not been told... most able brained people have now adapted to full-on mini mental movie zone-out sessions, in response to the first remotely identified hint of a "like and subscribe" speech🙃. The Psychology flipped, put that speech at the end of an uninterrupted fountain of knowledge and not only will I actually listen and hear it but I will gladly take those steps suggested. Don't believe me... Ask someone, nothing more annoying than begging for interaction before I even know if it's info worth my time🤷🏽‍♂️🤟🏼👊🏼

Your videos are very informative. I learnt a lot here. Can you guys do more research on and a whole video on the goddess Seshat, not only about her wisdom. There is not much out there on her.

Some say Ancient Egyptian rites were practiced all the way up to circa 700 AD / CE when Islamic armies conquered Egypt.

I was looking for information on Fetket, the god who served drinks to Ra. Essentially making him the gods of bartenders but is there any more information on him?
