Of course it sounded different. The new lightsaber after he became Vader was The Youngling Slayer 3000. Changes have to be made.

I didn't miss it. I noticed that dark side users have a shorter hiss when their lightsabers ignited. While Jedi and light side users have a longer, cleaner hiss

I've always thought the sound was based on how the activator was pressed which affected on how long it took for the blade to extend to its usual length.

Most people probably don't know this even though it's really obvious, but all Sith and Jedi have 2 very different lightsaber sounds. All Sith lightsabers go from high to low while Jedi lightsabers go from low to high.

If you look at how he activated the lightsaber too it’s like he’s trying to point it towards the ground in a forceful manner Vader use to do that too another detail that is easy to miss in a deleted sene in the force awakens in the snowy Forrest there’s a sene where Kylo crosses paths with Rey and Finn and the same way he activates his saber is the same way Vader did it ( kinda pushed towards the direction of the ground )
