Mind-Blowing Mixing Concept - Fader is Equalizer

Amazing Mixing Concept where Fader is Equalizer with 8 deep audio Engineering examples. All proved by Frequency Analyzer. How an instrument EQs the other one. How after volume correction you EQ again. Transient Shaper instead of EQ approach. Flatcher-Munson and more. After 11 years of teaching real-time classes, I changed the approach: From May 2025 each week I create one 100 minutes Lesson. On every Monday and every Thursday I publish a FREE 10 minutes video. These videos are exact parts of that actual full 100 minutes Lesson of that week. Subscribe and check the list of my videos, LEARN from FREE videos twice a week, and USE them as a real example of what FULL 100 minutes Lesson of that week YOU CAN BUY. And then you do it each week. All info is in those videos from May 2025 on my channel.

In This Video We Will Talk About:
An Instrument EQs the other instrument and how fader reEQs frequencies of an instrument. Or you get a nice EQ curve, but then some volume correction needed. All example with great audio examples and each statement proved by the a frequency analyzer showings. Then we will check how you have to reEQ again after volume correction. Then a very cool idea how boosting volume of a part of a sample beats general EQing of this sample. Then how Flatcher-Munson Rule contributes to this concept. Also how Plugin Manufacturers craft your Audio Engineering theory to sell you an EQ plugin. How some specific instruments reEQ the whole song in a way like a mastering engineer put some EQ. And very cool example how you like EQ curve not because of it makes the tone better but because this EQ curve gives more appropriate volume for the instrument.

This is just Epic content! On your course Andrew I remember the first rule was exactly to find the right balance and only after this to start EQ, compress etc. When I was doing my mixes the most difficult thing was always to find the balance between rhythm distorted electric guitar and snare, because rhythm electric guitar has more harmonics and occupies lots of space and if you have another instruments like solo guitar, bass guitar and synths it is more difficult. So if you have good quality recorded instruments - the first step is right balance like natural EQ

Great video, Andrew. Incredible to hear how freq balance of an instrument can vary that much with just a couple of db difference in fader. Great examples!

This is the kind of thing that drives me insane, eqing then adjust volume, eq then adjust volume more, then back to eq and maybe add a compressor.. when all I needed was the fader! XD

I'm not good at mixing and you always have great advice, thank you!
