RV Black Tank Clogged Up How it works

It's a common misconception with new RVers that an RV waste tank is some boxy, bottomless pit... It's actually a shallow container that has a tendency to block if there's not enough liquid mixed with solids (or someone shoves a GI Joe down into the 'cave' as we've had before :).
So, if you are trying to avoid getting your RV black tank clogged up, for starters, avoid putting anything down the loo that shouldn't be there. As Paul says at the end of the video "if it won't go through you, it won't go through the toilet!".
To reduce the risk of an RV black tank getting clogged with tissue paper use one that breaks down easily and tear your TP into individual sheets when you use it. Keep your gate closed and only drain when you get to about ¾ full. Pouring a half bucket of water down the toilet every now and then will also help keep everything moving, prevent mounds developing and stuff drying inside the tank.
