No joke, a few years back I had a sci-fi idea similar to this weapon system: A sniper team on the moon, using space suits designed to conceal their signature from radar and thermal satellites. Their objective is to send a anti-material slug through sensitive equipment several hundred miles away. Even at hypersonic velocities with no air resistance, the projectiles take time to reach their target, and smart munitions (guided with micro thrusters) emit enough of a signature to be shot down by defense systems, so the team decides to use a solid tungsten slug and rely on both the ballistic calculator and skill of the operators to fire at the opportune moment.
