Tip. If I were you, I would first play Persona 5 royal because of the game's Handcrafted Dungeons. Then I would play Persona 3 reload because it is a remake that has many of the improvements of 5. And then I would play Persona 4 golden, that game is a bit Ruff Around The Edges but still great. And for spin-offs there are a lot of good ones, but I would especially play 5 Strikers, don't let the Dynasty Warriors gameplay fool you, this game is so good that you can hardly call it a spin-off

Great list OJ! Gotta say, after getting 3 full playthroughs of the Elden Ring DLC completed, I tried out Visions of Mana's Demo today. It was very fun! I've been looking forward to the new Mana game, but now I'm really looking forward to it.

I'd add in .hack, Little Tail Bronx, and the Nier/Drakengard series.

.hack is a multimedia franchise by CyberConnect2 that's kind of like Sword Art Online but it was done by veterans of the anime industry, the Ghost in the Shell movie writer and Evangelion's artist being the most notable contributors. It's a really good story series overall, but I will say gameplay can be hit or miss depending on what you're playing. The IMOQ games are like a prototype Xenoblade where you're navigating menus instead of using an artes pallet. I like it a lot and it can actually be a lot faster than the Xenoblade series due to the lack of cooldowns, but it is divisive for newcomers.

The G.U. games are more hack and slash in terms of their gameplay. It's more approachable, but I'm not as big of a fan of it, the Last Recode remaster also really nerfed the difficulty. The Japan only PSP game Link is god awful when it comes to it's gameplay, 95% of it is tennis with Ganondorf, but it has a pretty good story and great fanservice for the entire series. I'm glad the fans finally translated that game recently.

The Little Tail Bronx series is also created by CyberConnect2 and it was started with their first game Tail Concerto which is a pretty cute PS1 platformer. Solatorobo was made 10 years later for the DS and is a huge improvement over Tail Concerto's gameplay and added in a lot more RPG elements to it. 10 years later they're making their next entry in the series the Fuga Melodies of Steel series which is a prequel set 700 years in the past and is an on rails turn based RPG.

I'd honestly argue that the gameplay loop for this series of games is probably the best CC2 has come up with for their original IP games so far. The on rails approach also allows the stories to progress at a great pace while introducing battle mechanics very naturally. There's also some strange .hack like references throughout the Little Tail Bronx series, so I'm kind of wondering if they'll connect the two series in a Nier/Drakengard like fashion someday.

Nier/Drakengard is a really good story series, but the gameplay for the Drakengard games gameplay can be really bad to mediocre and the Nier games have pretty good gameplay. Yoko Taro is a mad genius and I honestly can't wait for the next game he comes up with. All of these games subvert your expectations in great ways and will troll you, especially Drakengard, and I love that.

Just got into Trails through daybreak and I'm loving it so far. Personally I'm putting Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem near the top of my favorite JRPG franchises.

Edit: I have a similar story to when FE: Engage came out last year. I was very excited for that game and pre-ordered the collectors edition. Unfortunately, right before the game was delivered I received some really bad news and went into deep depression. I didn't even start playing FE: Engage for several weeks due to my depression. However, once I was feeling a bit better I started playing FE: Engage and really credit that game with helping me recover and get out of that depression.

I miss Golden Sun so much. First two games were pure magic. And you could make so much more of it.

Also, I would really like to see Nintendo let the future Xenoblade games go to places like PS5 or Xbox. It would be so good for the franchise to have more exposure and opportunity on other platforms. Really makes me wonder how big the series could be!

This is a good list, because, it's like a hub for which franchises which covers probably half a dozen games each, so instead of picking the best game of the franchise, recommend the franchise first, then people can research that. A suggestion, maybe add time stamps, but just as numbers (10-1), so people can skip to the next franchise if they're familiar with or not interested in the one you're talking about.

Great list as always. I’m one of those weirdos who bought the Switch for Fire Emblem and Xenoblade.

the weird ride with Xeno series publisher's: first Squaresoft, then Namco for first 2 xenosaga games then for Xenosaga 3 Namco Bandai games- now known as Bandai Namco. But now with xenoblade all have been Nintendo publishing, Also for anyone who is a fan of Xeno series def check out Baten Kaitos, combat is nothing like Xenoblade its a TBS rpg that uses card decks so its not like what you think of when people say a card game

Great list. Mine top 5 would be...
5. Phantasy Star (PS4 is too good imo).
4. Fire Elblem
3. Final Fantasy
2. Dragon Quest
1. Xenoblade Chronicles

Xenoblade Chronicles has yet to make a bad game (I've only played 1-3 and X).

Although they only three games in the series but golden sun is a heavyhitter the third entry is the weakest but the story from the first two games was awesome . The summons looked great on the gba, collecting all the djinns and rare weapons was so much fun
