Please keep in mind the rankings mostly come from how easy / difficult it is for a new player to pick up and learn how to use a weapon, not necessarily how to master it

I have to disagree for GS. While the move set is simple, you have to know monsters moves a lot more than other weapons. You have to spend time with the weapon, getting used to its speed and know what you’re hunting. I’d personally put it in between medium and hard because it’s simplicity, but you need the knowledge to use the weapon properly.

From what I see from streamers new to lance so far, despite being a simple weapon, people usually get thrown off by the Lance when they try it for the first time due to how slow and not flashy it is. I wish people could give Lance more time to present itself. If you can get over the first impression of how slow the weapon is, Lance is super fun to use and is actually pretty mobile.

the 2 rules of charge blade. 1. do you know the minimum to function with it? if yes see 2
2. set ego to 120% and call yourself a master when you only know the bare minimum

As a hack n slash enjoyer (and newcomer to the series), I initially thought that dual blades or long sword would be my weapons, but Charge Blade is amazing, extremely strong, good learning curve and ver well all rounded.

Glaive can be a bit confusing at first, but can be fun to use too. After I looked into the new kinsects, some of them are pretty good. Hell, I didn't even know there was an ability with them out using strong+normal attacks. Drawing in powders if you can is really satisfying. Wish we had more types available in Sunbreak, but I had to move on from the convenience of sapping two buffs at once at some point.

The thing with SnS is, it can be a bit deceptive. I think people have started respecting the weapon a bit more in the more recent games, but there was a point where people barely played it, for a simple reason: They heard it was the beginner weapon, played it, were very underwhelmed with the results, concluded it was bad and moved on to bigger weapons.

Because SnS has somewhat of a hidden, second skill floor, going from just "playing it" to sufficiently utilizing its kit to its fullest and keeping an excellent uptime, as the low motion values on basically all of its basic attacks mean that you need to be constantly hitting the monster to keep up damagewise, unless you want to find yourself taking half an hour to kill anything.

Like, take CB for instance: If you don't know what you are doing, then you will at least realize as much, because it's you whiffing attacks or not figuring out how the mechanics work. And odds are, even then you probably won't take too long to kill the monster because it has really powerful attacks. With SnS, you will trick yourself into believing that you are playing it well because you are hitting the monster and are not getting hit, when in fact you aren't performing any better and losing out on way more damage.

I feel like sword and shield is simple, but it definitely demands a lot from players. It requires a lot of uptime and any time not spent attacking piles up quickly worsening the player overall performance. The shoryugeki and shield bash have definitely helped people create openings and have a pseudo-ultimate attack to lessen the effects of not having constant uptime.

Gunlance has always been my favorite weapon, and in older games it felt a lot harder, but in this game they gave it a bit more mobility which made it a lot easier (for me) to use. I do agree that damage is low so carrying bombs is definitely helpful

A big factor in how easy a weapon is to pick up is the game plan.

While a versatile weapon like sns can be good for a new player, it lacks a clear game plan (since the plan is to do everything).

On the other hand, a new player with a hammer can easily see that the goal is to bonk the head, and the moving charge means they can hold it, wait for the opening, then bonk.

And when you want to switch weapons once you've acquired a bit of experience, you'll have an easier time understanding the great sword game plan than the sns game plan.

I feel like each weapon has varying levels of complexity, some are just easier to pick up and but most are difficult to master.

2:10 the backstep for the SnS DOES have invincibility frames and is great for avoiding roars from monsters, but can also be effectively used for any attack as long as it doesn't have a lingering hit box.

I'm not going to lie I sort of do miss having to memorize some of the songs because when I pulled the songs off in dire situation and give my team a buff they definitely needed I felt proud of myself but adding Simplicity as things evolve is the best way to go.

People need to stop saying that Dual Blades lack damage. They don’t. They lack damage PER HIT. This is balanced out by the fact that they hit extremely quickly and even do multiple hits per input. It’s a very simple concept. If one weapon hits for 10 damage and another can land two 5 damage hits in the same time frame, their DPS is the same. If you want to say their damage output is low, then you’ll need to explain how that works relative to other weapons and what they can output.

I definitely needed some guides starting out, but I always felt like Charge Blade is easier than people make it out to be. But I think that's just my opinion, plus starting it back in World where SAED spam was basically the only thing you needed to do.

Keep in mind the more you spend time with the weapon you choose the more it grows on you and become apart of your playstyle

Switch Axe is one of those weapons that gets 2 ratings depending on if they have Evade Extender 2 or not. The weapon doesn't use stamina, Evade Extender 2 is just completely perfect. Makes side steps go out enough for most attacks. Makes your sword forward roll faster than running. + the Sunbreak counter. My god it's a beautiful kit now.

Dual Blades is the most fun to play since I main it. It might come to disappointment for some who love big burst damage in a single strike or two, but I really love the dual blades mechanics in mhr. Give it some time and you'll learn how to dodge deadly dmg (Others can dodge it too lol :P).

This is my first Monster Hunter game, and I love the concept of the Charge blade. I like how I can keep switching between defensive and offensive. Yeah, you slow down with the axe out, but I keep my finger close to ZR just in case I need to switch back to move faster, or immediately put up that shield.
