Tesla Model Y Review | What You Should Know About Tesla's Popular Electric SUV | Pros, Cons & More

The Tesla Model Y is an all-electric luxury SUV that made waves when it was released in 2020. Smaller and less expensive than the Model X, the Model Y is now one of the most popular electric SUVs. In this video, Travis Langness from Edmunds explains everything you should know about the Tesla Model Y and what you should expect if you're considering buying one. This is our review of the Tesla Model Y.

Let's get this out of the way: The Tesla Model Y is fast. The Model Y Performance's 0-60 mph time clocked in at a blistering 3.7 seconds at the Edmunds test track, making it one of the quickest EVs we've ever tested. But the Model Y isn't just about the speed. When it was released in 2020, the Model Y Long Range had an EPA-estimated range of up to 316 miles, while the Performance version had an estimated range between 291 and 315 miles. Current Model Ys have different range estimates since Tesla routinely updates the capabilities and features of its vehicles in over-the-air updates.

The Model Y interior is spacious, with lots of headroom and legroom for all passengers. Getting in and out is easy thanks to the wide-opening doors, tall roof, and low step-over height. Every Model Y comes standard with a 15-inch tablet style touchscreen that controls nearly everything. Aside from the steering wheel controls, there are no buttons or switches, so getting familiar with the touchscreen is mandatory. The Model Y's advanced driver aids include lane centering and blind-spot monitoring, plus a real-time digital map of all the cars and motorcycles around you.

If you're considering an EV, you're going to need a way to charge it. We highly recommend installing a Level 2 charger in your home so you can fully charge your EV overnight. Additionally, Tesla offers a wide-ranging Supercharger network where you can charge your Model Y for a fee. If all of that sounds daunting, we're here to assure you that it really isn't. Charging at a Supercharger station is one of the easier things about owning a Model Y.

There's a lot to consider before purchasing a used Tesla Model Y. Is the touchscreen user-friendly enough for you? Do you have the means to charge it? Your answers to questions like these will determine whether the Tesla Model Y is the right electric vehicle for you. Watch our Tesla Model Y review to learn more.

Sad to see Carmax purchasing edmunds, no longer can you trust edmunds for un-biased reviews. This review tells it all. Done with edmunds, done with carmax, you should be as well.

Get back to us when you test the refreshed 2021 Model Y. So much better that it's pretty much sold out of them.

Have a 2021 MY LR. Was thinking of the Performance.
Happy with it, had since Oct 2020. Still a fun, comfortable SUV to own & travel. 👍🚗

- "It's right up there with the Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace"
- has 20% more storage than the e-tron and 36% more than the I-Pace lol

Not a single comment about one pedal driving? This seems very lacking

Virtually everyone that buys a Tesla loves them and a large percentage that get to drive a friend’s are in the market for one soon after.

I’ve had my Model Y LR for almost 2 years and was ready to hate this video thinking it would needlessly trash the car… but all I could say was yep… yep… and yep. Excellent/accurate/fair review. Well done!!!

it's illegal for me to use my phone while driving, but how can it be safe to be using a touch screen to utilise day to day functions??

How long does the batteries last and how much does it cost when you have to replace it

Very general video and no others from them on the Model Y. Like many of these companies that do reviews, they NEVER go deep enough. Not enough information to actually make a decision on a car.

This is one of the crappiest youtube reviews I've seen regarding the model Y.

Tell us about tire wear. I've heard that with the weight of the Tesla, they have excessive tire wear. Is that what you found on your test vehicle?

I feel sorry for this dude. The car is amazing with best safety, he just combed that right over.

NO add revenues for Edmunds. Easy to see why there's so much attitude delivered in this review. Carmax should get out of the EV business altogether. They know so little. They offer sales associates NO product training - for about the last 3 years. Tragic.

I drove model S for 3 yr .
With 140k miles on it was a trouble free vehicle. / just regular maintenance/ . The only thing went wrong was a wiper control module. Replaced 3 times !!
Tires are super -ridiculously expensive too !
Nevertheless, Tesla is far superior electric vehicle to any other electric vehicle offered on the market today. Fun to drive and very reliable, not like experimental vehicles made in germany .

I would like to see a long term test w/regard to battery charge capacity. I.E. as you use it, does it degrade, like every other battery operated gizmo you own. Also, can they make them look different? They all look the same…

For clarification you don’t “loose control” and you can also control it from your phone
