Lyrics:
Lord, you know that I've been bad
So, there's no use in lying to myself
Heavenly Father, please forgive me
I really don't want to destroy myself

Oh, when I come to the end of my journey
Weary of life; the battle is won
Carry my staff; the cross of redemption
We'll understand it better by and by

Lord, sometimes I feel like Samson
You know, the world has so many Delilahs
Almighty God, give me just a little more time
To right all the wrong that I have done

Oh, when I come to the end of my journey
Weary of life; the battle is won
Carry my staff; the cross of redemption
And we'll understand it better by and by

We'll understand it better by and by and by
We'll understand it better by and by
We'll understand it better by and by and by and by
We'll understand it better by and by

Oh, when I come to the end of my journey
Weary of life; the battle is won
Carry my staff; the cross of redemption
We'll understand it better by and by

My late husband and I watched this movie over and over . One day, he spoke up and said “I want this song played at my funeral”. Ten years later, I honored his request. Fifteen years later, I can’t hear that song without thinking of him and his request.

When I was a kid, I watched Cadence and for some reason would cry listening to this song. Fast forward 30 years, my father passed away and my mother, unbeknownst to us, selected this song to play as we proceeded out of his funeral service. I was so upset and glad at the same time. Now, whenever I hear it, I think of my dad. I miss him so much.

I used to watch the movie Cadence with my younger brother when we were kids. We both loved this song. My brother has been gone now for 4 years. I think about him everytime I hear this song. God bless.

It's a damn shame Harry Stewart wasn't allowed to record this song. Someone needs to make this possible.

I found this song just like everyone else in the movie Cadence. I've told everyone that when I die, I want this song played at my funeral.

I remember watching the movie Cadence as a kid on VHS tape and I would fast forward it to the part when he sang this song at the church and then I would fast forward to the credits to hear him sing it again...beautiful voice...oh, and the movie was good too.

Like so many other in the comments, I also grew up watching Cadence on VHS in the 90’s and would at many times fast foward to this song. Now at almost 37 and one who struggles deeply from depression, I want to thank Harry Stewart so much for this beautiful song that God truly put here for us all. Helped me more times then I can count and still does. I always said I wanted this song played at my funeral. Thank you Lord and Thank you Harry

How the heck is this not available for purchase in some form. Beautiful song. Christ is the only truth. Only Christ, through His apostolic Church (the pillar and ground of truth) can reclaim us from the abyss.

as a 16 y/o kid watching this in a one bedroom apartment, I did not know what the song meant, I did the movie, I love this movie, but the song; God saved the rest for me to find. Jesus is King

I was at work singing and one of my coworkers emailed me asking if I had ever saw this movie (this was in late 2017). I replied “no” and immediately he sent me a YouTube link to this song to listen to. Needless to say, I haven’t stopped listening to it and I’m proud to say as of today June 18th 2018 at the age of 37 (thanks to my fire stick) I have joined the millions who have seen this movie. This song touches my heart from the soul for so many reasons. So much passion was put into these lyrics

This song was played by my Aunt for my mother’s funeral. I search for years to find the original song. One night we watched Cadence and he sang this song. I cried because I had looked for so long. I felt it in my soul. I truly love this song and only bye him.

Harry Stewart is one of the most underrated singers ever! The greatest singing voice of all time! My opinion of course……

How can anyone dislike this song? Whether you are a religious person or not, this song is the epitome of all that is beautiful in this world. Long is the road, and narrow the path that leads to salvation, and very few find it indeed.

Even as a little boy in the 1990’s, I knew this song was very beautiful and was passionate about it.

Think about it Sisters and Brothers, this very thing is still happening in 2024. Life can be cruel 😢.

Thank you for the lyrics. I grew up loving the movie cadence. The song "was" my favorite but just a little bit too "man-centered" now that I truly understand the gospel. If an unbeliever listened to this song, he/she wouldn't know who was saving him/her and who the Almighty God was.
