Is This Indian Culture?

Clothing styles differed a lot across India's regions, cultures, and time periods. Although garments like Stanapatta or Kanchuka were used in some places to cover the bust, not all women everywhere wore them.

During Islamic rule in parts of India, and later under British colonial rule, clothing styles changed as new ideas of modesty were introduced.

Jnanadanandini Debi, the wife of Satyendranath Tagore, was reportedly denied entry to clubs under British rule because she wore the sari fabric over her bare chest. In response, she began wearing blouses with the sari and became known for popularizing blouses, jackets, chemises, and the modern sari draping style in India.

In the name of Indian Culture, we are protecting western culture today. We don't know what Indian Culture is actually.

I believe that women's clothing choices should not be a topic of discussion. Women should be respected regardless of whether they choose to wear a short dress, skirt, saree, burkha, or hijab. It's unfair to judge women based on their appearance and attire; they should be free to wear whatever they prefer.

The British thought showing a bare arm was uncivilized, yet didn’t think it was uncivilized to colonize this ancient, intelligent, beautiful civilization of people.

It is still quite common in the older generation, especially in rural India. My grand mothers never wore a blouse, yet always lookwd elegant in their cotton sarees. But at the same time, I have never seen them with their shoulders open when they went outside as they kept themselves very well covered.

This style of wearing a saree is the part of the culture in Ancient Odisha and now in the Tribal parts of Odisha region. Even my grandmother uses this style when she is at home and in my eyes she looks the most beautiful lady in this world 🥰

Love from Odisha 💕
