The messed up origins of Disney's Pocahontas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Love, romance, and independence. That’s what most people see when they watch the film that is supposed to showcase how Pocahontas’ life was. But Disney’s version of “Pocahontas” is quite different from what actually went down. Here is the Messed Up REAL Story of Pocahontas.

Apparently, John Smith wasn’t actually as great as everyone thinks. In the film, he seemed nice and cute, but in reality, he was actually going around pointing weapons at tribes and forcing them to hand over their food and supplies. Because that’s the perfect way to win over a woman’s heart, right?

Whether it’s Pocahontas’ actual age, how she ended up in England or her kidnapping, there are a lot of things that Disney left out of the story. Trust us, the real story is a lot juicier than Disney’s version. Stay tuned to The Messed Up Real Story of Pocahontas to find out why her love story wasn’t so lovely.

But both pictures in the thumbnail should also be fake since the black and white picture is a photo of a filipina during the spanish occupation.

I loved the Disney movie as a child, and as an adult I still love it. I understand the truth is far different to the Disney movie. But I still loved the messages it gave and thought it was a beautifully done movie. But, the true story is heart shattering. Granted I still cry just watching the disney movie. So, you can see how well I emotionally handle studying the origins.

I love how this video says “the other princesses do whatever their fathers tell them” like do you not understand that every single disney princess movie is about a rebelling teenager that goes against authority and turns out to be right and the parents grovel and apologize. Great message disney.

Your pic depicts a Filipino woman, not a Native American. I encourage you to change it. That frigging photo is plaguing us Natives as the wasiču’s stereotypical view of how we “should” look—and she’s not even Native.

A lot of Native American families don’t like this movie. I am Native American but I just try not to think of the negative. My boyfriends family (also Native) hates this movie and it’s banned from their home.

Wow....The true story of Pocahontas is so horrific and sad that I don't understand why Disney even tried to make it into animation?

She was lured onto a ship and got kidnapped, she also was around 10-13 so I would say she might have been a little older. Her mom is unknown and that is just an assumption that she died during birth. But I could be wrong.

Hey Pamunkey (Pocahontas' tribe) here!
Next time you make a video about a Native American, use an actual Native American in the thumbnail and not a Filipina or someone portraying Pocahontas. Use her real image!

Also, the Powhatan were not a tribe but an alliance of over 30 tribes. Chief Wahunsenecawh (Powhatan) was actually Pamunkey. Pocahontas' mom is speculated to be either Pamunkey or Patawomeck. Some of the tribes that were part of that alliance that are still around today are the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, Upper Mattaponi, Patawomeck, Chickahominy, Eastern Chickahominy, and the Rappahanock.

The “real” side of the thumbnail was not indian american. That’s a photo of a Filipino woman.

According to John Smith's records, she did not go to Jamestown alone with food. She had her servants with her to assist. Also, it was John's own account that described her as having saved his life after a month of living as a captive in the tribe. So, it's hard to know how accurate this assessment is.

The thing that makes me a little mad is the fact they left out some of the more inhuman acts committed on her. My best guess is so they can keep the video monetized which is showing there prioritys.

I'm offended by the inaccuracy of this video.
