Today, Josiah Alway of Campaign for Christ International explains to us why he doesn't believe in evolution. And it hinges on not doing the barest minimum amount of research.

Two reasons why young earth conspiracy theorists don't believe evolution

They don't understand it
They don't *want* to understand it

There's no transitional organism that's halfway between my father and myself. Therefore I must not be his son. Guess I was conceived immaculately, so that means I'm the reincarnation of Christ, right? Is that how it works?

His first arguments sounds to me like: Math isn't true because mathematicians still haven't found a number that shows the transition from 3 to 87

As you know, when Josiah says Transitional Species don't exist, he's looking for a CrocaDuck literally, as well as figuratively

If he wants us to find a transitional form between two kinds he'll need a rigorous definition of _kind._

Calling DNA ordered, is like calling a shuffled deck of cards ordered.

If it's considered a code, it is more indicative of a spaghetti monster having written it, than any structured programmer.

The outcome, the result, that is life from DNA, or due to DNA; does not necessitate, or imply, DNA to be absolutely perfecty ordered. ("I am who I am.")

As someone who recently held his mothers hand, not being able to tell whether she was aware of me or not, as she took her last breath, which then
emptied some browny goo from her throat and mouth, due to the cancer eating her inside out, I have become very sensitive to the notion that DNA is
a perfect, ordered code. No, it isn't. And Fuck cancer!

At the same time, in the manner in which I understand evolution; I can not deny that cancer, ie mutation, is very much part of it. ("We are who we are.")

How creationists define a transitional fossil: "Any fossil we *don't* have between two that we *do."*

I said this on Dapper Dino’s page, when he was talking myth v. Literal interp.

Mythology is a tool that makes humans more able to deeply question themselves and their culture, and the afterlife, and morality, and god itself. Genisis “tree of life and knowledge” story has a very strong sense of myths related to “why we are not animals, why we are not kids”. Kids can be seen as living in some kind of paradise, where their wants are given to them. They make no decisions, they are cuddled when they hurt, etc. And they have an innocence. Life is not bad or evil yet. But at some point in their (or abstractly, human) maturity, they start to seek knowledge about the world, which includes the fact they we are mortal beings. The tree of knowledge comes with death, or “understanding you will die”. And with knowledge, with questioning, you have to leave the garden to begin your own life with its own choices. The hopi have katchina gods. Which to little kids are “real”, men in costume playing a role. But at some age, around 10 to 12, the children were kidnapped by the kachina, who then in a ceremony, took off the masks, and showed the kids that gods are more conceptual, and we dont know what they are, but its a life long quest to find out.

Literalism strips all that delicious world-wonder, self reflection, define your own place and god stuff from religion. It is the WORST shame from cognative develop, ent phase. It forces its followers to remain dependent children, praising a mean daddy.

"Missing link is still missing"
Well durr, otherwise it wouldn't be a missing link
It reminds me of when an object gets lost and "it's always the last place you look". Obviously, because you stop looking once you've found it

His whole argumentations boils down to :
- I skipped biology classes.
- I skipped physics classes.
- I skipped biology classes again !
- The Bible must be true because I believe in it.

14:04 “IF YOU WISH TO MAKE AN APPLE PIE FROM SCRATCH, YOU MUST FIRST INVENT THE UNIVERSE”
What a great quote!

One of Josiah’s underlying errors is his requirement that evolution be proven, while his theology requires only claims.

You know for 25 years now both as a Christian and as an atheist I have never once thought disproving evolution would do one thing to advance Christianity in the slightest. I wanted to be a theological ministry that opposed Ken Ham and AiG when I was 18 but we are still here trying to disprove globe earth... I mean evolution.

I love these "top reasons for god/creation". It's the same bad arguments repackaged.

I think a decent analogy for transitional fossils is to look at colors. If red and blue are a ‘kind’, the gradient of shades of violet would be similar to transitional fossils. When does it stop being red and become violet? When does it officially become blue? Evolution isn’t quite as neat as a steady gradient, but hopefully even creationists understand how to make purple.

He keeps saying he does not “believe” in evolution.

Good thing evolution is not a faith system because his “beliefs” are not germain to the subject.

Another person who doesn't know what "entropy" means but isn't willing to find out. Entropy is not a measurement of order or lack thereof. It's a measurement of the available heat energy within a system. I expect Rhino will mention this somewhere along the way, but life is a great way of increasing entropy, as it requires conversion from a high energy state to a low energy state.

Josiah: _These are my top 4 reasons, why I don't believe in evolution._

Me: _I said it before, and say it again, imagination does not equal education._

It's always cute to listen to creationists trying to debunk science. Makes me feel like I'm watching a cat running after a laser spot.

I think we ought to tell these people that the velociraptor (and related species) IS a crocoduck. I'm talking what a velociraptor really was like, not the messed up Jurassic Park version. It has feathers and wings like a duck, couldn't fly, and had razor-sharp teeth like a crocodile. And it really does represent a species along the evolutionary line between reptiles and birds.
