The slide section is missing a key detail. To slide with your weapon out requires three footsteps, with your gun holstered it only requires one footstep. Anything under this will be a dead slide.

As someone who focused aim and game knowledge before trying to learn apex movement I really appreciate this guide!

Thank you mate! I've played for about 600 hours but still learned a new one from your video. It was hard, but I feel that my skills improved

Hello from Team Fortress 2 rocket jumper. When I first learned about how to air/tap strafe in this game, this only took me less than 15 minutes to practice and master (and other similar Source mechanics) because I'm very used to the original Source Engine movement (i.e. Half Life 2, Quake, Team Fortress 2, CS:GO).

I don't know if it's just me, but I haven't seen a lot of players in the lobby perform tap strafe possibly because they get used to his/her "common sense" movement mechanic and ignores the behind mechanics of Apex thinking it's cringe or hard, or maybe players were not into not pressing W while midair, or it's not appropriate to use yet. Air/Tap strafing is something that some players will have to "race to the bullet" especially if you don't have any Source movement background. This is typical for most people about thinking to themselves "I should press W whether on ground or air." However, for most Source games (including Third-Party Source), when I teach people how to strafe in TF2 for example, I keep telling them not to press W otherwise you'll not airstrafe correctly. Same goes to Apex if you want to air/tap strafe to the point you'll dominate almost the entire lobby. This takes a lot or some efforts to get used to their mechanics.

As a side note, the beginning of performing a tap strafe is like setting sv_airaccelerate to 1000.

I’ve been needing a movement guide for apex for a while, so thank you. Needless to say, moving from Titanfall 2 to apex is PAINFUL! I feel like I move like a snail! Hell, even just SPRINTING feels slower. I haven’t been able to get into apex at all because of how the movement is in comparison.

The best movement I learned in this game was how to move my mouse over the uninstall button, worked very well didn’t have to deal with sweats anymore, highly recommend 👍

if someone wants a more in depth explaination for the movement showed here i recommend watching "How to Dead Slide, Faide Slide, Skip Jump and More" by JayTheYggdrasil for specific timings and "The mechanic that shaped Titanfall speedruns" by zweek is based in titanfall but most of the knowledge still applies in apex.

also an example of airstrafing that is a bit more noticeable is the octane's pad trick on gravity cannons

For the stubborn who refuse to or the unable to bind scroll wheel to forward, you can still get by with manual tap strafing.

To make the action easier, I recommend alternating between a forward and sideways input for 3 inputs, starting with your final intended direction. Ex: W>D>W. The execution is not strict, uses two fingers, and you would be surprised how far 3 inputs will take you!

On controller at least I aerial strafe in between slide jumps, so at the peak velocity for the best performance.

The redirect is what I need/use to not suddenly jump off the map😂

Looks cool and im on controller. I tried doing the zipline trick but I think my interact speed is too slow which sets me off. I already learned wall jumping by accident in season 9 where I (usually) just jump at random walls for some reason and then crouched afterwards. I then tried spam jumping at the wall and finally wall bounced. I was big brain.

So much of the air control stems all the way back from GldSrc and Quake.
