When i was like 14 I listened to this and wrote chick corea a letter telling him I’m going to be a jazz pianist when I grow up. Never got a reply haha but I’m a jazz pianist now. Surreal this track got me started

Here’s something crazy! He did reply to me! I’m just dumb and forgot but I mentioned it to my mom and she was like “ oh yeah I have his letter in your keepsake box here and dug it out! “ crazy.

Chick played this in such a way that you could feel a slight autumn breeze blowing across your face, ruffling the red and orange leaves in the trees, making them slowly one by one flutter to the ground. The sun is setting earlier and there will be frost when you wake in the morning.

How truly wonderful to be a child, hearing 'The Great Pumpkin Waltz' in 1966 and not even realizing that we were being exposed to a masterful jazz waltz! All we felt and heard was the joy of 'Schroeder'. Musical joy given to children is a gift that never dims.

I really love David Benoit's rendition too. It's just a beautiful song. It's got a sweet melancholy that just does something for the heart that's so magical. It is the music to a dream I haven't yet realized. But when I hear this song it makes the dream feel more tangible; like I can reach out and touch it. My dream hasn't yet come to fruition, but this song gives me hope.

I am inspired by you as a visual artist via your timeless music. I had just started watching your "how to" videos on playing the piano. I played the "Waltz" often after I moved from my parent's home.

This track. The rest of the album (IMO) was pretty cheesy, but this track was absolutely masterful. Straightaway from the first two chords, like leaves changing color. Absolutely brilliant performances from everyone on this, still after 30 years one of my favorite of Chick Corea's tunes and a must listen every October. It's like a distillation of Fall into a tune. Alright, now I'm getting cheesy. RIP Chick, you were truly one of the greats, and thank you for everything you gave us.
