Your power was impressive but what impressed me more was the precision you showed.

Man you make it look easy. I'm catching hell trying to do the same with some white oak but it's a bit more twisted up. Did you re profile your maul or is that just the way it came?

Nice.

I got elm coming out of my ears, i was amazed at how much less difficult it was to split after letting it dry for a month or so.

I'll remember this vid when I get some oak tho.

Strong bloke 😎Swingin' that maul like it's nothin'! Good axe advice in general for anyone reading - Choose something suitable for your size/strength, and don't be tempted to get the "biggest/baddest" axe you can buy. It's a marathon, not a sprint, so you need something that you can throw around comfortably for a longer period of time.

Some species split better green (oaks, maples, ash, ....etc) Some species split better after they have had time to dry (hickory, birch, pine, hackberry, sycamore, elm...etc). Some other species it doesn't seem to matter (mulberry, black cherry, sassafras, cedar...etc). Splitting with hydraulics it may not matter much. But splitting by hand I don't want it to be any harder than it has to be.

Muscled through that like it was pine. Do you think red oak and great oak are the same.
Is that round 16" long?

Oak, maple, birch, hickory, apple, etc all should be split green. Elm on the other hand, let that stuff sit in the round for a year + then split it, unless you’re looking to have a bad day 😎

Beast. I got some rounds, a lot of them, that are about 10 to 12 inches across, my arborist friend told me it is white oak. For the life of me I cannot seem to get them split, I have beat the living hell out of them with the maul and other axes, wedges take forever. Wood like white ash I fly though, can easily do 10-15 times as much white ash as I do this white oak...
It’s from the side of the road so I don’t know how long it’s been down, but it’s wet enough where if I sink the axe into the round, water seeps out of the wood where the axe tip compressed it
