Madurai Junction, an NSG-2 category railhead located in the heart of the historic city known for the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple, is set for a major transformation. The station, which serves as a crucial transport hub for both locals and tourists, handles 96 trains per day and sees an average footfall of 51,296 passengers daily.
To enhance the passenger experience and improve infrastructure, Southern Railway has initiated the redevelopment of Madurai Junction as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize railway stations across the region. The project was awarded to M/s P & C Projects Private Limited of Chennai on September 22, 2022, under an EPC contract valued at ₹347.47 crore. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months, with M/s TUV India Private Limited overseeing the Project Management Services (PMS) for ₹10.88 crore.
