Update on Madurai Junction redevelopment works
Site office construction completed and inaugurated
East Terminal works in full swing : Barricading, dismantling and shifting of facilities in progress
Existing Bus Bay relocated
Southern Railway has taken up Madurai Junction redevelopment in order to offer a world-class ambience, futuristic infra and airport-like facilities for passengers. Tender was awarded for the redevelopment work in September 2022 and now the work has begun and progressing at a steady pace.
Works executed & in progress
Recently,
·Site Office construction works have been completed. The site offices of contractors and Project Management Services have been inaugurated.
·Barricading, dismantling and shifting of various facilities is in progress as part of East Terminal works
·Bus bay relocation works are in progress
·Material shifting works in labour area is in progress
Apart from the above works, the following preliminary works have already been completed:
·Preliminary works such as Mapping and Topographical survey, soil investigation, Traffic survey, tree inventory, joint inventory of movable and immovable assets have been completed and validation in progress
· Project management Services have commenced work.
· Right of way, which is a legal right to enter and carry out the work, has been provided to the EPC contractor for carrying out the work
· A series of meetings are held with the stakeholders of the project
Madurai Junction Station Redevelopment
Southern Railway had awarded the work of Redevelopment of Madurai Junction Railway Station on 22nd Sep, 2022 as EPC contract to M/s P &C Projects Private Limited, Chennai at a cost of Rs. 347.47 Crores, setting a time frame of 36 months for completion of the project. M/s TUV India Private Limited, Mumbai have been tasked with the work of Project Management services (PMS) at a cost of Rs.10.88 Crore. Two terminals are proposed to be constructed, one each at the Eastern and Western side. Three Multi-level Parking structures will be built, two buildings on the eastern side and one on the west with air-concourse to facilitate segregation of arrival and departure.
Station Redevelopment works in Southern Railway
Of the nine stations taken up for redevelopment in the first phase by Southern Railway, tender has been awarded and works are progressing at a steady pace at all the stations, namely, Chennai Egmore, Madurai, Rameswaram, Katpadi, Kanniyakumari, Puducherry, Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town and Kollam.
Apart from these, 12 stations have been entrusted for Techno economic feasibility study of which four stations namely, Chengannur, Thrissur, Tirunelveli and Kumbakonam have been entrusted to Southern Railway and the remaining 8 stations, namely, Dr MGR Chennai Central, Tambaram, Avadi, Coimbatore Junction, Kozhikkode, Mangaluru Central, Varkala Shivagiri and Thiruvananthapuram Central have been entrusted to RLDA (Rail Land Development Authority).
