I realize how long ago you did this ..however, I've been wanting to try this one for awhile so today I finally did. Debbie is so right. You draw the carnation pedals while you're talking and make it look so real....and easy. I've paused the video and tried it twice now. The second one does look better. Perhaps with much practice. I'm glad I didn't do this on a card just yet. The colors are wonderful. I so enjoy watching you draw....and create. I'm so glad you're part of YouTube and we get to receive your knowledge and experience....and your great, happy and funny self.

Thanks for the great tip using the credit card. So much better than trying to control a tiny brush with unruly bristles.

Just tried this one tonight, and loved how it turned out! Didn't have anything handy to scratch with, tried a tooth pick and ended up finelining some red veins, but what a fun and beautiful introduction to watercolor pencils! So glad I decided to give them a try, and thanks so much for all the inspiration and tutorials!! I know you will always deliver when I can't figure out where to start.

I saw this video when you first posted it. For some reason I didn’t feel that I could do it. I did it yesterday, and it came out pretty good, shocking! I didn’t use enough water initially on the yellow part of the carnation and when I went in with the red and tried to score it with the credit card, it was failing miserably. I carefully rewet the area, so as not to disturb the pencil, then tried it again, and it worked! Thank you for showing us your struggles because I learned how to work through my mistake instead of scrapping it and starting over.

Those little green “leaves” around the base of the flower are called sepals! They’re what cover the bud before it blooms!
