From your figures, I noticed Malaysia is cheaper than Vietnam. $3, 127/4.5 mths = $695, whilst one month in Vietnam, you spend $935

it depends on how cheap the transportation is and how much you spent in the country

So thailand 4.5 months, Malaysia also 4.5 months. But we are cheaper a bit. Let us not calculate per month, overall it is cheaper in a well developed country.

plus... good health care, good public transportation facilities, good air quality, good education system, less natural disasters, low crime rate, and everything that involves the cost of living. if it includes all of those, which one do you think?

Alwin, based on the list of expenditures that you posted there : the expenditure per month are :
Thailand USD 704+/mth
Malaysia USD 647+/mth
Vietnam USD 935+/mth
Philippines USD 1212+/mth
Malaysia USD 790+/mth
Thailand USD 699+/mth
So Thailand and Malaysia are the cheapest 2?

Alwin spent around twice the amount of monthly minimum wage of Malaysia ($350-ish) in a month ($700), so if any tourist read this, you can expect that he enjoyed his living here by not underspending during his stay

Alwin did not visit many touristy places. That is why it is cheap. If you go to national parks, go to palawan, boracay, coron, go on cruise in halong bay, go to angkor wat, you will see a bigger hole in the wallet. And not to mention bali and singapore A bigger hole will appear in the wallet.

Where did you sleep? Hostels or hotels? What about food? Flights? This cost is really low imo. I am preparing myself for a trip to India, Bangladesh + Southeast Asia + Indonesia + Philippines and I’m not sure 20k USD is enough or too much. Would appreciate your help 👍
