I really do have the most wonderful community here on YouTube. Thank you for *getting it*. And for everyone asking where Vilk was: he was being boarded at a trusted facility! Obviously this is not the kind of adventure I can bring him on - dogs aren’t allowed on trails in National Parks in the USA, and obviously he’s still way too young to start running. Thanks for all your kind words ❤

I'm a certified Wilderness First Responder, if I had come across you on that trail and found you that ill, I would absolutely have implored you to turn back, those were some scary red flags, and you absolutely made the right decision. Just imagine, all of us watching just transcended time and space to be with you in spirit in that moment, encouraging you to be safe and turn back. So proud of you.

I'm a former special unit police officer and vet of two branches of the military. THE hardest thing to do is listen to yourself and drowned out the squelch, usually coming from other people, or society or pride. Mental toughness INCLUDES knowing when to say when. You, my friend, are tougher and smarter than most hard asses I've known. You do you and press on. You're doing great and I, for one, admire you.

Just remember you didn't quit, you did what your body told you to do and you were smart enough to listen♥

As an influencer for well over a million subscribers you've set an excellent example for all of them too. Truly listening to what your body was telling you & making a difficult but sensible decision was so much more important than "pushing through the pain" like a Navy Seal would say to do. And you have every Wilderness First Aider backing you up for your excellent choice too.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. Thank you for this incredibly important discussion.

I am immensely proud of you, not just for the courage it took to make and publish this video, but for the wisdom to make the right decision on the trail. If this message of wisdom-over-indoctrination sticks in the head of just one person, you might well have saved a life. Thank you, Eva. ❤️

Altitude sickness. And it was not quitting, it was a learning experience. You have taught many people a lesson in life. Listen to your body more than your mind. The way our bodies react to conditions is a self preservation mechanism. Glad you are here safe and well to conquer many more challenges in life. Good luck. 🙂

STOPPING at the right time is not quiting. It is being wise enough to know your safety limits. You have accomplished far more in your life than people three times your age. You are a true adventurer!

I‘m at the complete opposite side of life than you are. I have cancer, i just came out of my 5th surgery and lay in bed all day.
But still: this video helped me sooo much! I keep telling myself i should be able to walk by now, i should talk to more friends on the phone, i should read, educate myself, get some hobbies, DO something with my life. But maybe it‘s as simple as that: now it‘s time to rest. It‘s time to NOT do the big things. My body needs me to focus on myself. Its so hard when you‘re conditioned on functioning and working and keep pushing through. But maybe i should decide to stay in bed and to rest, to quit the stress and socializing and everything. Thank you for this video. It made me calmer and less afraid.

As a resident in Seattle area, I've been to Mt Rainier 10-20 times. But I have never see and stepped in such widerness around Mt Rainier before. Thanks for showing this to the audience like me. Don't be sad about the quit cuz there's countless chances to do it again. There are things in your life that you have to insist on and not quit, but not this one. The real value from these kind of activity comes from sharing the experience not from actually finishing.

Knowing when to stop is a success. I'm so proud of you, Eva.

I am a USA Colorado mountain native and have lived, worked, and pay all around high elevations. Working at some of the ski resorts in Colorado I knew the signs of high-altitude sickness. Obviously, I can't confirm that with you - through video - but it is nothing to mess with. I've seen young athletic co-workers come to the ski resorts and faint in the kitchen. Some of the best athletes can die or have severe health risks from the lack of oxygen even if they have enough water and electrolytes. When my co-workers would get nauseous and on the verge of vomiting I would send them to urgent care or the ER. You did the right thing.

I don't see this as a quit. I see this episode of your journey as a success - knowing when to stop and also knowing when to course correct your mental awareness. Navy Seal talk is for Navy Seals. Yes, they inspire us to push and do more, which is great and I love it too (in doses). But, a Navy Seal's need to push through is completely on survival and the nature of their occupation, anyone who is not a Navy Seal is different in their needs. I've had to learn this lesson too. Let the "never quit" attitude go and allow yourself to adapt your life to the changes your inner growth has taken you.

Keep trekking on, Eva. We look forward to your coming journies - and that includes your successes and (perceived) failures. <3

Quitting something you are especially dedicated to doing is definitely not easy. It’s a very admirable thing to do. Something in the universe was telling you not to continue and that could have been for the best… you could have been in an even stickier situation much further up the trail. I’m proud of you!

I remember going for a hike one day and i was really excited to get out and crush some miles. Not even a mile in, I came upon a rattlesnake warning me to back off. I looked at him. It rattled at me and i looked around the cholla strewn desert and a voice inside my head said “theres probably another.” I turned around and went back from whence i came.
Im glad you turned around when you didn’t feel right. What you accomplished in those two days is still a win. Inspiring!

I once held the same philosophy of not quitting. But after a few experiences such as this, I no longer hold myself to such high standards. I still plan crazy adventures, but I do not get as emotional when I decide I must turnaround. We are human, and there are days ahead that you’ll experience the rewards of accomplishment…and there will be more days such as this. The fact that you dream, train, and try.., is all that matters. Enjoy the moment.

You did not quit! It takes immense inner strength to not only half run back while you are feeling ill AND also film! That's not quittting to me! I'm glad you chose wisdom over bravado. I'm proud of you and inspired by your strength! Thank you for posting this video.

The fact that you put on your running shoes, a backpack, camera and gear, to run a mountain means you are a winner! You are winning in this life and to know when your body is saying no is wisdom beyond measure. I’m glad you turned around, you turned around you did not quit! Hi five because you are an amazing person and I’m so glad I found you on YouTube. You encourage me to do the hard things in life and to imagine the impossible possible. Thank you 🙏🏾

I'm an old guy who has been on many epic hiking adventures. Yes, part of the experience of being in nature is to physically challenge ourselves as it is the only way to take in the abundance of the natural world. However, I learned long ago that despite best preparation and single-minded determination sometimes in the natural world the odds turn against you. Be it weather, terrain conditions or an off day physically, there are always dozens of things that cannot be anticipated. All this said, the most cherished outcome of any epic outdoor adventure is to RETURN HOME SAFELY and be able to share the experience.
