Leave a comment below...I want to know what you think.

Photonic Transistors Optical Processing it will be here before you know it...is this our chance to revolutionize processing and transition from the binary age? Data Values assigned to each photon by wavelength? New Rules of Mathematics and data evaluation based on wavelength? Spectral Computation...the evaluation and processing of non-binary data...is it just a crazy idea or could this be the new future of computing?

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I'll go shoot something now. lol

Quantum computer will work with "Qubits" which can represent 0, 1, or a superposition where both values are represented at the same time. In essence it's like your idea of increasing the number possible values. The first computers were indeed analogue, where for example 1.2V and 0.3V could be added to give 1.5V using operational amplifiers, however they can only ever be so accurate due to electrical noise. The idea of digital is noise reduction, and perfectly transmitting data.

The oldest reference to the creation of an optical transistor in silicon is from 2009...which in computer gen years is like a thousand years ago.

Actually the same guys that invented and developed conventional transistors have already developed what I term photonic (instead of electronic) transistors that are the very building blocks required for optical processing. That break through is about a year old now. It's the substrates and laser lithography I believe are the bottleneck...not the logic gates.

Optical Transistors Idea in 1963. Actual Revisiting and actual building and use of processors have been looked at recently.

Well, quantum computing for defense, cryptographic, and scientific uses isn't as far off as you may think... useful quantum computing in the consumer space, on the other hand, may not ever happen unless some things seriously change in the field of cryptography. Lockheed, for example, recently contracted the purchase of a simple quantum computer... I say "simple" due to the system's major limitation: input must be in the form of a Hamiltonian.

The diamond sheet CPU's are going to be the next big thing for super computers which use quantum mechanics. That's all I have been following on it though.

I could see this happening is the far future as there would be so much work involved in taking our laguages all the down the machine level and reworking from there and up and until we get to our OS so this is something that could be promising down the road.

Imagine how even more smarter programmers will need to be. We're coming to a point when technology become way too complex for humans to understand.

Just Google "Optical Transistor" you'll see plenty of sources

the biggest issue of this theory is that we don't have anything that we can make a computer with light using! computers work off of logic gates made of transistors(semiconductors that only let electricity flow one way) we have not a way to duplicate this using light, yet.

you forgot that they dopple so you can have a value of 4 or greater, if I'm remembering correctly. Although, the biggest issue of this theory is that we don't have anything that we can make a computer with light using! computers work off of logic gates made of transistors(semiconductors that only let electricity flow one way) we have not a way to duplicate this using light, yet.

Quantum computing is still a ways off, but "Molecular Computers" are already a possibility, they are just not cost efficient yet.

Hey Einstein, what about Quantum Binary?

would you mind sending me the source? I would hella love to read up on that, computing at the speed of light was something I discarded as impossible so if that actually works it'll be monumental(at least to me)

You saying Optic fibre goes from binary to analog data? It's possible but so far we need to take it in baby steps. I think we should start by trying to improve optic processors and hope for faster bitrates.

Now for links and cables to be broken into an analog signal the obstacle would be the conversion to digital. To me the conversion to digital is the bottleneck. I'm no expert and I'd love to be proven wrong.
