Propagating succulents from stem cuttings

I am trying to propagate and save succulents, that have been over watered.
They are native to desert or low rain environments. So too much water will kill them. They like dry free flowing sandy soil. So good drainage is needed.

I'm so confused with all the different advice that I've heard so I'm wondering...I have leaves off of my plant and they finally calloused at the very tip. NOW when I place them on dirt do I water BEFORE or AFTER I see roots? Some say lightly spritz before the roots show then others say wait til the roots start growing. What do I do? Thanks in advance.

Thank you, I have been going over a ton of video's on propagating succulents, and it been exhausting to find the one answer I was looking for..!  I just wanted to know if the soil need to be wet or dry, Lol..
