Dremel rotary tools are incredibly versatile. You can do a variety of sanding, cutting, grinding, polishing, engraving, and cleaning tasks with a Dremel. Some other attachments that are available for these tools allow you the ability to do drilling and routing tasks as well. The wide range of jobs that can be accomplished with a Dremel make them a very cost effective tool. In this video we will be looking at the Dremel 4000, along with a few of the accessories that come in the 4/34 kit.

I have been a Dremel tool owner and user since the mid 70's and my first Dremel lasted close to 20 years. I still use my model 395 which was bought in the late 90's as we speak.
I recently bought a Dremel 4000 as I have purchased one of the Dremel workstations and mounted my older model 395 Dremel tool using it more as a 3rd hand to hold the tool and leave both hands free to hold the material I am working on.
Also the added bonus of being an adjustable height fixture to hang your moto tool on when using a flex shaft the workstation is even more valuable as an accessory.

Again if the work station is used within the parameters it was designed for (no it is not a multi hundred dollar precision metal drill press!) I highly recommend it to be well worth its cost of admittance.
As it is more of a pain to take the tool in and out of the workstation a second Dremel made more sense as then it is easy to use a flex shaft or just use the tool freehand while leaving one permanently mounted on the workstation.

Secret to long tool life is first spend about five- ten minutes with a new tool to run it at a lower NO LOAD speed to help properly break in the motor brushes, same with the flex shaft run it no load and basically straight with little to no bends to let it bed in to the casing and distribute the lubricant before placing it under load.

Also remember a Dremel tool is not designed to physically force its way through materials but to finesse its way through using speed and taking tiny bites at a time.
Do these things, use the tool as it was designed to be used and in my experience in the last 4 decades you will find Dremel to make a quality tool that will last you for years and their accessories will also transfer over many different models.
There is a reason that Dremel has been at the top of the heap for the last 5 or so decades when it comes hand held rotary tools.

I just picked one up last month and added the flex shaft. Nice tool. Replaced a 30 y/0 craftsman rotary tool.

Thank you for making a good introduction to dremel tools and accessories. I learned more off of this video than I did of the 20 I've watched before. Good job

I have the 3000 and have been happy with it after loosing a much earlier model that lasted around 25 years. My preference is for the corded models and not having to worry about battery charging.

Thanks for the review Ben!

I've known about the Dremel for decades but never bothered to investigate further thinking it's a flimsy tool for kids to play with. Instead, over the years I invested heavily on the "main" tools - both electronic and traditional hand tools - and now have a collection that can seriously embarrass a professional. Two years ago I purchased the Dremel 4000 Platinum 6/128 series just for fun and never opened the box until last month (to cut a small thin piece of metal off a table lamp). To my surprise it did a perfect job in less than a minute. Wow! Since then all my other tools collected over the years have been made redundant- it seems!

When I started as an electrician and had invested in all my tools, my dad bought me a dremel and I spent the weekend before my first day engraving all my tools. They still walked away but I got pretty good with that engraver tip.

Just a note, it's only a toy router, it will not be able to do as deep, as large and as dense material as a real router tool
