LIGHT SWITCH TYPES – HOW THEY WORK – and the UNIVERSAL SWITCH

In this video from Learn Electrics, we will look at a subject that new learners often ask questions about, namely light switches. How they function, how to test them and the often asked - can a two way light switch be used as a one way switch, and what about intermediate switches,
They are actually very easy to understand and use, but can be confusing at first and this video is intended for all those that want to know more. We all started off by not knowing at one time, me included. And this video is also for those that want a reminder or just like watching videos on electrics.

We will begin with a look at the different types of common light switch, move on to testing switches and then delve into the different types and their uses.

Hi Dave, how can we know that L3 and L4 are never the input cables? How come we never test those two?

I'm an Electrician of a few years and I still get totally confused with lighting circuits. They can really screw me up.
