I can’t speak to California, but in the state I primarily practice in (Pennsylvania) the Judge was right: it’s not that Denzel didn’t present a compelling Miranda issue, which may justify suppressing evidence of the confession, but rather that a preliminary hearing is not the place to address it.

I understand a lot of people are saying accept then fight, but you have rights when being detained or arrested. You need to fight it whenever you can

I would sinply say...notice of intent to appeal. So the entire trial you lnow you have grounds for appeal.

He was just trying to get the the obvious outcome right then!

That wasn't the time or place to argue that. His idealism was outdated, unfortunately, he didn't realize that yet at this point.

As somene who's actually autistic, I have to call bullshit on this scene. Someone who's supposed to be even somewhat familiar with court proceedings wouldn't try to butt heads with a judge right out the gate, and even if Roman had a legit problem with this situation, there's no way in HELL he'd openly challenge the judge on the spot. Auties live in a perpetual state of anxiety, and Roman would never deliberately incur the wrath of an authority figure like a magistrate, at least not within a courtroom environment. He'd quietly accept the terms given in the courtroom, and then go fight them in a more appopriate setting.
