I remember another event from Ali’s life. He had a business lunch meeting and the waiter made a mistake on the bill. The businessman scold him and treated him unfairly. Ali got up and left saying the deal was off. Pleading, the businessman asked why. Ali replied that he saw his true character, the only reason he treated him so respectfully was because of his name. But if he wasn’t the man he was, if he was another waiter like the one before, he would have given him the same attitude. I respect Ali not only for his physical strength but he also carried his discipline in life as well

I have a book called "The Muhammed Ali Reader." It contains the following story. There was a Catholic nun working on a mission in a remote part of Africa. This was later in Ali's life when he was in the throes of Parkinson's. The nun wrote Ali a letter addressed to his home in Kentucky saying that the children at her mission had heard many stories of his legend and asked if he could sign some memorabilia and perhaps send it to her there as it would help build morale amongst the poverty stricken children. Ali received the letter, gathered bags of boxing gloves, shorts, singlets, photographs and other boxing equipment, jumped on a plane and went straight to the mission and spent more than a week with them.
