HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus: Installing 25GbE, 8TB of Flash and ESXi

We have already provided a hardware video review of the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus. In this video, we're prepping the server for performance review by adding 4x SK hynix SE4011 SATA enterprise SSDs, and a Mellanox ConnectX-4 25GbE dual-port NIC. We also leverage HPE's iLO 5 onboard management platform to install VMware ESXi 6.7u3. All that's missing is the second 16GB DIMM that should be in hand shortly. Once that's installed, the lab will be able to run the performance testing segment of the MicroServer review.

I really like the form factor of the new MicroServer. Also, iLO is back!

HPE really needs to add 10Gbit NICs native and an M.2 slot of OS install.

I really wish you guys would add dBm noise measurements on the microservers as its one of the big factors for the people who often pursue these small servers.

OH MAN! I'm obsessed with all things SFF - look at that little gatffer. 25GbE with all flash storage? Finally some right proper iLO too. *drools*

Is there a drive caddy option for the SSDs? Leaving them dangling just hanging off the SATA/Power connections seems precarious.

Why are you guys using the 176.16.x.x? That one is not private right?

I'd a bit surprised if a smallish business using one of these has any plans for a 25GbE LAN switch.... :)

Have you tried or could you try installed larger drives beyond 4tb? The spec sheet says 4x4tb but I am curious if it could support 8tb drives or larger.

One more question. Where did you install ESXI too? You mentioned it has something on board? No issues with that?

I use3d the HPE software to create a raid 10 with 4 drives, I installed the EXSi on the internal socket for a USB. ESXi is running but i am not able to see the raid with the 4 drives. I also did not see it during the ESXi install. when i tried to =look for the data store in EXSi it does not show. please help.

Great review. Got us buying the 10 plus.
But need your help, ja question: Where do you find the default password for the iLO?
We have the iLO enablement kit installed afterwards, but not have a clue where to find the password.
It's mentioned it is not a standard password but somewhere on a sticker.
At least it's nowhere in the enablement kit they send us.

I have the hpe proliant microserver gen10 plus v2 that has the Pentium G6405. Is there anyway of using the iGPU on that processor rather than the Matrox onboard graphics that comes with the microserver?

Just got me one of these. Trying to figure out a ssd to use for esxi. Going to use a nas drive for storage. I want to get mine to 64gb ram.

Don't know if anyone knows the answer to this or not, but can you install Windows Server or Windows 10 on the hpe 32GB USB Flash Media Kit that is sold for this unit? The datasheet for the kit shows it is compatible with Windows Server, but whether I try to install Server or 10, neither listed installed kit as install target - they only show the installed SATA drives. I realize that 32GB for a Windows OS is suicide, but at the moment I'd just like to know how to do it since HP sells this kit and shows it supported with Windows Server. Unfortunately they have 0 documentation on how to do it.

Is it possible to install more than 32GB ram? e.g. 64GB. Can you test? Thanks.

Interesting little box. Redundant PS is a must for me though.
