Licensed insurance agent here. And the cost of auto and home insurance in south Florida is just crazy!!! That alone would deter me from living there.

I moved to Miami Beach in 2008 right after the big housing crash and lived like a King in a brand new condo for $1.100 a month. Dont think i could move there now with the type of deals i used to get.

I live in Charlotte but I go to Miami a couple of times per year to visit my good friend. While it's a cool place to be for a week or two, I would never live there because it's just not my vibe. Too many tourists, all the food spots are overcrowded and expensive, the majority of population speaks a language other than English, looks like everyone is trying to show off which makes it seem like Miami people are fake. Too hot, too humid, drivers are crazy, someone would cut me off there every day. Many people are rude, there is no southern hospitality like in Charlotte. Tropical rains, constant floods also make it hard to live I'm Miami. No free parking and so on and so forth...

My 22 years old son recently college graduate has been living in Miami Brickell for the past six months and it is VERY EXPENSIVE. He is making 240K/yr in finance, but he does not have much money left after rent, food, going with friends, bars, etc... Lots of fake rich instagram and influencers in Miami when I stayed with my son for three months recently. Definitely NOT worth it. I can get the same thing in Da Nang Vietnam for 30% of the cost. YMMV.

Visited Miami several times and it gets better and more beautiful each time, the overwhelming healthy lifestyle, the weather, the vibe is intoxicating, it's certainly worth the cost of living there and I'm moving to Miami within the next 2 years...

I've been traveling to Miami and Miami Beach quite often since 2017. If you decide to eat out all the time, in higher end establishments, any city is expensive. Same is true for going out to bars, clubs, event venues, renting boats, etc. It's interesting that you don't talk about groceries, where to find local ingredients, or learning how to cook. There are many local markets and also options for lunch and/or breakfast that are reasonable. Also, there are many local places I've found that have great food, but aren't considered "high end" restaurants. There are also many health & fitness clubs, yoga and pilates on the beach, and all kinds of activities like that like biking, running, etc. that are inexpensive. I like the parts where you talk about different neighborhoods like Brickell. Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Little Havana, Coconut Grove etc. since these are all in the Miami area, and each area has a unique feel. Miami is a great place !

"Too expensive" is a relative term. Nothing is too expensive it's just more expensive than we want and many can't qualify to purchase here.

I love Miami. Brickel is a bit of a concrete jungle for me as I prefer more of a beach lifestyle. The real estate to buy in South Beach is not great. A lot of buildings are older and I think living there day to day with all of the tourists would be a bit much. I have a friend who bought a house in West Palm Beach 3 years ago and have visited him many times. West Palm and Palm Beach island have a great restaurant scene and fun places to go out in the evening for cocktails. It's more refined but a bit quieter than the constant action of Miami. I like both and choosing one place to buy a second home is a tough decision. I can't decide on a location.

I went to Miami for vacation since 1998 and finally moved there from Germany in November 2020. So I know the place a long time. Miami changed a lot especially during the last 3 years. It was hyped during the Covid times cause Florida was open and free. As a result of that lots of weird people moved to Miami and the city does not feel human anymore.

Regarding Restaurants: As a Miami resident I stopped going to Restaurants a long time ago. Not only is it a total rip off, it also makes you sick since all of them are just using the cheapest GMO ingredients to make their `food`. I have friends who own a huge Pizza restaurant and I know what´s going on. Restaurants like Nusr-Et can only do what they do because of the stupidity of the people. Who with a clear mind would pay $500 for a Steak? People just doing it to brag about it on their social media`s. Now because of that $500 steak they are somebody. Finally. What a joke. And this brings us to the whole energy of Miami. The City always had some kind of a fakeness, but during the last 3 years it became a total clown show. A clown show filled with empty souls trying to be somebody. Very sad. For the City and the people. I wish everyone would become human again.

I can only recommend to cook by yourself. Go and get organic food at Whole Foods or somewhere else and you will eat healthy for a tiny fraction of the price you would pay at those rip off restaurants.

Regarding rents: Miami is absolutely overpriced. People are sharing apartments to be able to afford the rent. 5 or 6 people in a 3 bed room. It´s like living in a hostel. Most of the native Miami people have to work 3 jobs to survive only because of the `hype` caused by those narcissistic fake people who moved here during the last 3 years. Thank God they are already leaving. Sadly the rents wills stay high for a longer time, but they will adjust at some point.

What else? I´m pretty good connected and I`m going to little events and art shows and things like this from time to time and when I get invited, even if I don´t like it at all because of the fakeness. The weird energy there is the same. Lots of people trying to meet someone, pretending to be someone and desperately trying to make friends. I just had a conversation with two friends of mine about how lonely this place is.

Don´t get me wrong here - I love Miami. I just pray that the City will get its former vibes back so the beauty of the City and its nature will have a matching energy and feel.

Miami costs less than my little town in Vermont. It might be expensive for Florida but it sure as hell cheap compared to New England.

I watched this video to try and understand why you should live in miami and I wasnt convinced then at the end you say you guys are leaving miami haha I was in midtown for 3 months and it was fun but I dont get the hype. The only reason you should really live in these high ends cities like miami or nyc is if your going to meet people that will change the trajectory of your life financially because those are the places where the wealthy live. I spent 6 months in south america and everything miami offers you can get it in places like medellin, santo domingo, etc. for 1/4 of the costs and its the same if not better, its just harder to find higher quality people but they are still there for sure.
