Alot of people don't understand just pulling doesn't help. For 1 walking without leash tension is good bc a dog then won't be on edge and second if you correct bad behavior when it first starts to occur and get the dogs attention back to you then you'll be on your way to great walks with your dogs

My pup got attacked my 3 black dogs who were always off lead over the period of a month and now reacts when he sees one, i shall try this. I tried so hard to get my pup to be a social butterfly, and other peoples stupidity ruined it in about 40 seconds! Thanks for the tip i will be trying this 😊

When training thru negative reinforcement: wich this is, the dog works because it tries to avoid negative consequences. Pain or discomfort.

Modern dog training knows - by science - that dogs work better and are less stressed when trained thru positive feedback loops. When not expecting pain, discomfort or stress, but rather expecting something good when doing the right thing. A treat, a toy, a pet or anything positive.

Of course it demands more effort from the handler but it's just the better way to train dogs. The right way.

American training culture is couple of decades behind.

I used to have a dog that was lead reactive sadly he has since passed away HOWEVER no matter what tools or corrections i used NOTHING would stop im lunging forward... i used to have a head halter (haltie) on him in the end to give me some control.. but id have to have 4 or more new ones clipped to my belt cause he'd just snap them like they were made of paper.. so in the end, i used to walk him at weird hours and in quiet places so no other dogs or people were around

So you use negative reinforcement to give the dog an uncomfortable feeling when it reacts so it learns not to bark, but what do you do as actual training to remove the problem?

As if. Done this for ages and the dog doesn't care.

Ive noticed that when I dont pay attention to the other dog or dont give any reaction (like tightening the leash). The dog quickly learns that if I dont care then the other dog is not a threat. Pulling up is not entirely necessary.

I always pull up. Im small af so i have to use my weight wisely since i like big dogs. Trying to pull back just makes them pull harder and im not strong enough to counter that. If i pull up however it completely stumps them 😂

I use a harness. I wasn’t a fan of asphyxiating my doggo. I felt and thought it was doing damage. I bought a leash with three options for length. That works like a charm. I keep my GSD super close. I also used a vibration collar. I put tape over the shock part. Though it feels like licking a 9v battery. Never use that.
Why yes, I am old. Why do you ask? 😂

Will try this .. but i walk 2 dogs at once.. one leash, chain in between to connect the 2.. so how without pulking up on the non reactive dog.. i cannot manage 2 different leashes.. they are big dogs..it would be a tangled disaster
