Straight up, when I met Julian in person at the airport, he was the most laid back, friendly dude there is. I think he is just generally a quiet person. It was funny though, like, when he saw how nervous and speechless I was with him, I think he started to open up a bit more to try to calm me down. Probably a skill he has had to utilize quite often I would think.

I had the opportunity to talk to him when he played at a private event near my city. He is actually that uncomfortable all the time. Altho he talks in a more fluid way to normal people when there are no cameras. A girl jumped the bar and tried to take a selfie and he looked at her and told her: you're not even gonna say hi? Or something. He is just that kind of person, he doesn't like to be treated like he is a star, just a normal guy, in that way he will be more willing to talk to you, he says the most incredible things.

Julian Casablancas is what I call a "cringe-detector": His ever-present awkwardness makes other people react awkwardly too, but it's always the others who seem cringe because, as opposed to Julian, they are trying to put on a show and be entertaining, while he is just genuinely himself.

He's not dull!! He just thinks before he speaks and gets straight to the point. He always mentioned how he hates interviews and just prefers his music to do the talking but i think his management pushes him to do this for publicity of his new album. If anything, he is the most talented, bright and smart "celebrity" I've come across. I hate the rock and roll genre but anything with Julian I love because he's so gifted!! Thats how good he is, that people who dont even like genres of rock like his music!

I've seen Julian give great interviews when he's with an interviewer who lets him speak at his own pace and doesn't come on so strongly with so many shenanigans (grabbing his chest right off the bat? trying to put orange slices in his pockets? come on.) Julian is an artist but not a showman...he and James just weren't on the same page this go-round.
