Quilting Math - How Many Blocks do I make?

Hello everyone! Today, we are going to show you how to determine how many blocks you need to make when making a quilt. I also explain how to calculate if you are using borders and stashing.

The range guide lines I use for making any quilt is as follows:
Size of bed
King 76 x 80 96 to 108 wide by 90 to 96 long
Queen 60 x 80 80 to 92 wide by 90 to 96 long
Double 54 x 75 74 to 86 wide by 85 to 91 long
Twin 39 x 75 59 to 71 wide by 85 to 91 long
Crib 26 x 48 30 to 48 wide by 40 to 60 long
Throw n/a 54 to 60 wide by 60 to 72 long

The bigger you make the quilt, the more fabric you use on the front and the back so this could help reduce your excessive scrap fabric stash, LOL.

Let us know in the comments below if you would like us to show you more information on Quilting math.

Most importantly, quilting and piecing is about having fun not feeling pressured! Stop worrying if your blocks are not the right size because there is no quilt police.

I hope this helps you conquer your Mount Scrapmore!

There's no orphans in Quilting!! They all find a home somewhere! Great explanation Brenda!

Great explanation for a very common question, Brenda! I still always over buy fabric...just to be sure. LOL Hence, all the stash fabric I'm surrounded by. :)
Keep quilting, can't wait to see your finished flower quilt.

I have 1, 000 2, 5 blocks. Working on first 200. Please how big of a quilt will this make? Maybe I’ll try the math in the morning and the math will be easier and I do have some time to figure this out as I mentioned I have 1, 000 and I’m only on first 200 😂

Once you figure out how many blocks are needed (for the specific size quilt you want), how do you figure out how much fabric to buy? TIA
