I really love Natalie's "nuts and bolts" quilting videos! I am teaching myself to quilt and these crucial skills aren't often featured in typical videos. She provides very clear instructions. Thank you, Natalie!!

This was the best explanation I have watched on calculating your binding strips. Seriously the only video explanation that didn’t just spout off the calculations, actually explained how to measure and cut the strips. Thank you

Thank you, Natalie! Calculating for binding and backing have always been intimidating to me. Always worried I'd end up with too little fabric. I am so happy that you share your knowledge through these tutorials!

I like to use the Robert Kaufman quilting calculator app for calculating fabric requirements for backing, batting, border, etc.

I’m thinking about doing this in 2.5 inch and using those squares to make a larger quilt top.

Robert Kauffman has an app that calculates these measurements for you. All you have to do is the measuring if and input of numbers.

I've tried math for bindings and have come up short. Unless I'm doing a small project, like the placemats for my classes, I just always cut my binding from a 1yard piece. It's always enough (even my recent 110" x 110" monster), and then I save the leftovers and join them all together for scrap quilt binding.

This method of calculating the binding amount only works for joining binding strips straight end to end. This method of calculation may not give you a sufficient number of strips if using the diagonal joining method for your binding strips, especially when cutting strips for larger quilts.
