I needed to deploy a DFS system for a client and I needed to record my steps to remember. Here is the steps on how to configure your distributed file system and replication on Windows Server 2012.

Just wanted to point out that at 6:54 you say that the domain-based namespace is the name of your domain controller. That is incorrect. It is the name of the domain itself, not the actual name of a DC. That might confuse some people who are new to AD.

I love your videos. I have a question, I am doing a centralized MDT with DFS-R to our other sites. I was wondering, on the other sites do I need to install MDT? Or do I only install WDS and point to the original MDT?

Thumb up, thanks to the effort and the wonderful presentation, but if we are talking about larger work environment with shared folders containing the large amount and size of files, is there any way to monitor the speed of replication or sync process between the DFS servers?

The only thing I wanted to see was where the folders were residing on both servers. Also, is there a vid with only 1 file server setup with the possibility of adding a new file server in the future?

I can assume you only select DFS Namespace and not select replication

can the DFS lock the file when the 2 users use the same file in the same time?
If we have a DFS that contain with 2 File servers, and 2 users try to edit the same file in the same time (word or excel), can the DFS lock the file when the first user open it, so that the second user get a message that the file is read only.

With the assumption that the DFS refral each user to a different node of the 2 file servers in the same DFS.
