Microsoft has been making changes for the sake of change for decades.

I think it's ridiculous the fact that a 7th generation Intel core i7 is "incompatible" while a 8th generation Celeron is.

I upgraded to Windows 11 a week or so ago. You have 10 days, I believe, during which time you can revert back to Windows 10. It took hours to upgrade and less than an hour to decide to revert back to Windows 10. It looks nicer than Windows 10. That's the ONLY advantage for me that I found in it. The Start menu is maybe 10-20% as good as Windows 10's. The Task Bar is worse than that. Not being a gamer (other than chess, which isn't helped by Windows 11), any and all "improvements" seem useless. The ONLY thing I might be interested in is running Android apps, but that's not ready anyway.

I tried Win 11 for a day. There were no compelling reasons to keep it and I absolutely hated the new context menu. It only offered basic options (cut, copy, etc) and to get to a real context menu you had to then click on "more options." That might be a minor annoyance to some, but added to the fact that 11 at this point offers no new functionality made me roll back to 10.

Like any Windows version upgrade from a previous iteration e.g going from Windows XP to Vista, there are definitely going to be teething problems and I agree holding off initially for a month or two will yield better experience and better security after this timeframe.

It feels like someone who's been using a Mac all this time, suddenly got on the Development Team for Windows 11, and thought, "how can we make Windows feel like a Mac?" I cannot express how I hate...and I mean HATE, using an iPhone/iPad. I want to get in there and tinker with my OS, to customize it the way I want it, and Windows 11 is headed in a direction that a lot of Windows users are not going to like.

I remember upgrading to Windows 10 when it first came out..like literally the day it was available...worst decision I EVER made. That's because it was filled with bugs and it was my first time upgrading or updating new a new operating system. Now that I've learned my lesson, probably gonna wait a year till all the bugs are worked out for Windows 11, before upgrading

It's like all Microsoft releases, you absolutely HAVE TO spend a couple of days going through every single area and menu to change the system to react and work the way you want it to. I've found a 6 month window is about right to wait (for a load of stuff to be fixed) until choosing to go onto W11. The initial product isn't a good idea for me at this time.

The hardware requirements for Windows 11 mean that none of my 4 PCs can run it. Am I going to replace them? No. They do the jobs they are meant to do fine. Economically, it just isn't even an option. As for that big scary date of October 2025, whoop-de-doo! They won't stop working just because the Almighty Holy Microsoft says so. If they still work then, the two that I largely use offline will go completely offline, and the two I use for more day-to-day stuff will migrate to Linux. It's that simple. Also, I rather resent that I will HAVE to use a Microsoft account in order to use a PC at all. That's bullshit, and I'm not wearing it.

I remember being an early adopter and upgrading from Win 3 to Windows 95. It was a painful experience. I've learned to wait until Service Pack 2 before upgrading.

I can wait to get a new PC with Windows 11 on 2025. My current one is still compatible with Windows 10 with the security updates I can get.

Waiting out a major software release until the bugs are ironed out should be standard practice. Let other users beta test it.

My laptop is a little too old, it has a 7th gen dual-core CPU. I'm more likely to put Linux on it than upgrading it from W10 to W11.

This was a great breakdown on the current state of things and exactly what I needed to watch to make an informed decision on whether to update or not. Bravo!

Just want to point out, you can definitely go back to the original taskbar in windows 11. It's under Behaviors>Taskbar Alignment>Left. Personally im pretty happy with the functionality and design language. New Terminal, the general de-simplification of settings and enhanced customization was enough for me to make a full switch.

I updated to W11 and after 1/2 hour I have to switch back. The "new" features are the one you deleted before (MSN, News etc). A lot of things are broken like screen capture etc. Save your effort !

That's the first time I've heard anyone pronounce "mundane, as "mewndane", interesting approach :) Thanks for the review, I'm super tempted upgrade then roll back after a week, since you have a 10 day grace period for full return to the Win 10 environment, as I've yet to learn my lesson over the courses of every new OS since Win 3.1, and OS/2 :\ could be that I'm simply, a masochist.
