Heavy snowfall on Monday disrupted life in Shimla, with 112 roads blocked in the district, primarily in rural and high-altitude areas.

Officials confirmed that by 6 PM, significant closures were reported, including 48 roads in Kotkhai, 27 in Rohru, and several others across Rampur, Jubbal, and Dodra Kwar.

While the main Chandigarh-Shimla and Bilaspur-Dharamshala routes remain operational, machinery and emergency teams have been deployed to clear blocked roads.

Shimla city’s circular route is fully open, and the area has been divided into five sectors to streamline restoration efforts.

The administration urged travellers to follow safety guidelines, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated through official social media channels.

It'a absolutely amazing the Indian attitude towards preparedness, or lack of it! It's not unusual for Shimla to have snow, why wouldn't it occur to anyone to have snow chains or socks for their cars?? India is a reactive society, not a proactive one! Anyone who lives, and drives, in a county that regularly gets snow and/or ice knows to have a pair of snow chains/socks for their cars, and how to use them in such conditions. It's really not rocket science. Sigh.
