Zag is genuinely such a charming character, I love when a game can make me feel so connected to the main guy I’m playing as, when I can feel like I’m standing there with him and helping him get through it all, good stuff

Well he is the god of blood, relationships and life. He is the guy that brings people together and strengthens families and friendships. I'd guess that compassion and care for his loved ones is part of his bag.

I like that they chose a very under the radar god because it gave them lots of room to play with his personality, interactions with friends and family, and goals!!

Everyone sayin' great things about 'im but my mind can only remember that one route/scene in game where he literally banged Thanatos. Though it wasn't shown (obviously) but it was slightly hinted/implied that they did it 😶

I'm looking forward to the sequel I'm kinda sad we won't get to play as Zagreus tho but I guess they gotta switch it up or it would pretty much just be the same game

Zagreus really is a god-like (ayyyye) protagonist! Truly a breath of fresh air in comparison to other, edgehead protags out there. He knows how and when to apologize for the bad things he's done and takes no shame in being wrong. He has an open admiration for people in his life like Nyx and Achilles, and he isn't afraid to tell them how much he loves them. He's humble and kind, always helping people and giving them unsolicited gifts, because he knows as a prince his duty is to help the citizens of his realm as best he can. He's also got a great sense of humor! He's always cracking jokes and quipping at random times. Sure, Zagreus has his flaws. He's reckless and hasty, always making decisions without thinking about consequences, he's incredibly stubborn, and is probably just at least a little bit stupid. But none of that detracts from Zagreus' biggest character strength: He's nice, and he likes being nice. He's not ashamed of being a big, soft himbo. He likes being that way! And that's what makes me love him so much 💚

That and, ya know, he just looks cool!

Hot protagonist with kind, sweet personality and HOT VOICE??? Man, nothing sells more than that and I immediately bought this game.

They were so smart for choosing such an obscure and undefined god for they're protag as it let's them do a lot with the character without worry of a concrete source material to betray. They're doing the same thing with hades 2.

The mechanic of giving out nectar used to express Zags compassion towards his friends is the best narrative tool they came up with

At first I thought Zagreus was going to be a Dante-like snark hero, but I realized that he’s actually unfailingly polite to everyone /except/ his dad, and even when he’s mad at someone he never goes past the level of courtly barbs.
I imagine this comes from being raised among the figures of Greek myth, who famously don’t take sass very well.

And Zeus still thinks that zagreus is just too weak to escape the underworld. Little does he know he's done it dozens of times, all for the sake of taking care of a garden.

It’s also interesting how the game has us dealing with the aftermath of him involuntarily hurting his loved ones. And the way he had gone about it goes a long with in SHOWING rather than telling us about Zagreus’ personality. Mostly in that his heart is in the right place when he’s not being rash and impulsive and literally charging headfirst into things.

So then, you love him because his story is as far from Greek mythology as possible

I love this game. Everything about it is awesome and Zagreus is a character I've never heard of but loved immediately. The only thing I dont like is Hades' design, but I love that they didn't make him an evil villain like in Hercules and Percy Jackson (the movie not the books)
