Most people watch 7 hour long courses just to end up the same state...

True in some way early on it help me but now I have been coding for at least two years. I get to a point instead of watching a 3 hour video of someone doing something, I just read the documentation and do it myself. Once you master one language everything else seem really similar.

Do NOT follow coding tutorials... *meanwhile* ... Sign up for 20% off for my coding tutorials

It doesn't harm to watch videos and code with them. It actually helped me learn Java. But I admit that only videos don't help. We need to refer to documentation and articles to learn.

I have doing computer programming for 3 years in my computer science degree and then took a break because Data Structures and Algorithms because it was too hard in my data structures and algorithms college course that I was forced to drop out and then I realized something why I took a 3 or 4 months break from programming. Also coding and programming are vastly different and interrelated. Coding is just typing small or large computer code that does Not automate specific tasks, but programming or data structures and algorithms is when most people seriously including myself is when a person has a hard time thinking like a problem solver to automate a task without errors and doing what it is exactly supposed to do. I still struggled data structures and algorithms even till this day. But I do think I want to back to computer programming or data structures and algorithms now I have a long break from Programming. Watching long tedious videos will not help at all but watching at one video of at least 30 to 45 minutes for each day will to master one concept in one day instead of people trying to grip themselves multiple concepts in several hours video(s) will hurt your brain and strangle your exhausted brain (your not a machine, your a human being remember that) and coding or computer programming yourself and rather create your software program that is vastly different than the one from the software developer/engineer from that Youtube video is what I'do recommend. Data Structures & Algorithms is the most important concept in computer science and in the software industry for sure to general or specific tasks automate tasks to solve a problem, hence problem-solver.

Yes great advice, I was so motivated this morning doing my python reading article, then even 60 minutes following a python tutorial. Until...I had this deep feeling I was learning nothing, and I was right. Someone people in the coding community swear by project tutorials but I knew it was a lie.

I've probably watched 15 videos related to coding today everyone was saying to do my own projects without reference code but no one explains how.

Until my friend here came along and said to do code wars, exactly what I was looking for, practice actually coding by myself, I'll probably reference information videos on the fundamentals but at least I'm actually doing the thing. BONUS, they have a calculus so I can do practice problems with that too!

Thanks man.

When you watch tutorials, you should be coding along side those things you’re being shown. And pause the video and do research on works you don’t understand and concepts you haven’t heard of it.

That’s how you learn. Not just freaking watching someone code. You have to APPLY

How else am I supposed to get a full stack web app done? I have to learn a shit ton of stuff from how to host the backend, what tech stack to use, the best type of database, etc etc. It's so much information you need to know before you get the most basic possible version of your app running

If the video says "pause here and do the exercise', absolutely do that. Most YouTube videos won't give you that though.

This is not a new problem. Self help books in the 80s was similar.

Good thing to do: watch the tutorial, then go to your computer and *actually use the information in your code*

What am I supposed to code if I don't know how to do that. For example if I want to learn Functions, will I be able to code that before learning 😒
