japan is like a final source of hope for introverted cynical westerners, who've become disillusioned with modern society. it seemingly offers an inherent spiritual depth and richness of culture that has been lost in the western world, while still being fully steeped in it's capitalist, consumerist values. it almost seems superhuman, the japanese culture of politeness and respect for the surroundings and eachother, and the people look exotic, mysterious, as if anything is possible. as with any human ideal though, it suffers all the same flaws and imperfections that also plague every other society, they're just hidden away beneath the surface. there is no holy grail or pot of gold, i sometimes have to remind myself of that. that said, we're all a bunch of fucking weebs
