Resin 3D Printing with Multiple Colors 🌈

Testing out how we can 3D print with multiple colors with a Resin 3D Printer. Pretty easy on an FDM 3D Printer but how difficult is it to do on a Resin 3D Printer?

I did something like this last year for my mother's birthday gift, except instead of changing resins I was adding more resins of different colours to blend them. I had to keep the amount of resin in the vat low so I could control the colour, I started with a clear, then added green transparent, and as the print went I would add transparent blue. I was adding small amounts of resin every 20 minutes to keep the transition consistent.

One thing I would highly recommend is warming up the resin! I've played around with Nova3D resins and the Monocure CMYK dyes to do transparent coloured parts and used a similar technique to make a rainbow-coloured rook - and warming up the resin you're going to switch in definitely seems to help with ensuring that it holds together on each colour change

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I've been contemplating how to go about changing color in between. My thought was while paused in between colors, do a quick rinse in IPA to get the last layer color residue off and not slightly altering the next color. But thank you for doing most of my research for me lol I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought about this

I recently started to print figurines, and being a total toddler at painting, I wanted to print them using different colors of resin. What I did was I divided the model into multiple parts and prepared a tight assembly, as well as resin inserts for the smaller details. But changing resin mid-print didn't even cross my mind! On some pieces, assuming everything works as expected, it would have saved me so much time to do just that. I'll definitely remember the idea and experiment a bit with it.

these came out amazing 🔥😎
I was thinking in the past to make a project with peristaltic pumps and multiple bottles, so it’s pouring the colors automatically, or better mod a printer and make like a huge revolver with vats 😅

Seems to be a need for active continuous agitation in the resin vat to get the particle mixes to print well. Could even be DIY with a magnetic stirrer on the side of the vat.

Pretty neat. Loved how you're experimenting, basically with resin hydrodipping.

Just a little note about a recent experiment of my own. I was playing with trying to do a gradual marbling but using a white base then adding in some dyes of light blue in the center of my tank, some darker blue around it and a little back in the corners. I was trying for a stormy sky and it worked for the supports but by the time it got to the actual pieces, it was almost completely mixed. The end color was pretty nice for a stormy blue/grey but the marbling was pretty non-existent.

3:58 I don't know... The Sonic Mini came with clear red vats and we had cracking issues.

I can imagine when u start with a single color for example blue end refill it time to time with only yellow it could create a cool effect

For the glitter it works a LOT better with transparent resins this way you don't just see the clumps on the surface but the glitter all the way through the print. The separation issue that happened is because the glitter settled in the bottom of the vat making a layer that cured more glitter than resin. To prevent this you want to stop the print every so often and stir/mix the glitter up off the vat again.
